Who you are
- 2+ years of experience in product management in consumer web or game development is preferred but not required
- Ability to deconstruct competing feature sets and understand the market landscape
- Capable of building relationships and earning respect of cross-functional team
- Strong community focus. You’re someone who interprets community feedback into digestible insights for the team and incorporates community feedback into product requirements and improvements
- Ability to build wire-frames and product specifications
- Passion for games and crafting fun, compelling and exciting user experiences
- Outstanding written/oral, organizational, analytical abilities, and attention to detail
- BA/BS degree
What the job involves
- Zynga is looking for a dedicated and passionate Product Manager who can own projects, drive results and directly impact business performance of large-scale games
- As Product Manager, you will work closely with a cross functional group to write product specifications, drive features through launch and understand metrics to make data driven decisions
- Responsible for the full product/game lifecycle. Own and write product specifications while working in multi-disciplinary teams of design, art, and engineering to launch core features within existing and new games!
- Communicate clearly with cross-functional team members
- Inform and execute against defined product strategy on a feature or project level
- Understand core metrics. Use a hypothesis based analytical approach, conduct experimentation
- Own results of individual features/projects and consistently manage against defined expectations
Our take
Zynga is a games developer that rode Facebook's platform to success back in the late noughties and early 2010's. It is now one of the biggest casual game producers globally, with a presence across over 170 countries and regions and millions of monthly active users.
Though the company hit a number of roadblocks after its initial success - such as falling stock prices, and numerous calls it was copying other games - its subsequent resurgence is proof of its staying power. It continues to use social media as a distribution channel, and boasts titles such as FarmVille, Merge Dragons! and Words With Friends.
Future success will lie in the company's continued investment in building viral games that people love. It will also need to attune to the social media waves and keep track of where users can be found, as the landscape has become more mobile. In 2024 the company announced it was developing push notifications that enable gameplay without entering the application, which will be an interesting addition to its outputs.
