Who you are

5+ years of engineering experience
Experience in a start-up or a similar fast-paced environment
Have a deep understanding of a range of ML techniques (LLMs, RLHF), areas (NLP, Speech), and tools (pytorch)
Maintain strong awareness of the state of the art, and can select an appropriate algorithm, tool, or technique for a given problem and scale
Proficiency with web (full-stack) technologies, especially Python; TypeScript is a plus
Experience implementing Machine Learning solutions, whether out-of-the-box or in-house
Familiarity with cloud services (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud) and how to leverage them to expedite development
A track record of building customer-facing products
Experience designing products from scratch alongside product and design teams

What the job involves

Take charge of machine learning projects from start to finish, including data discovery, design, implementation, and deployment
Build unique datasets to train and test new ML capabilities
Device new and innovate ways to benchmark and evaluate LLMs for novel usecases
Take a skateboard → scooter → bike → motorcycle approach to go from customer focused prototypes to scalable production grade services

Initially founded as a car-sharing app for college students, the company pivoted its focus to insurance in 2021, raising $18M to accelerate this pivot. By leveraging the insurance infrastructure its founders built into the car rental app, Lula's API has become the Stripe of insurance.

Lula's main challenge will be competing with other insurance infrastructure developers. However, the company's high profile, solid backing, growing portfolio, and broad focus on small businesses and enterprises will give it a vital edge.
