Who you are

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA and/or Master of Science in Taxation is preferred but not required
2 + years of public accounting or financial or service industry experience with corporate, partnership and
Multi-state income tax compliance, ASC 740, and basic tax research is required. Some sales and use tax knowledge is a plus
Ability to think “outside the box” to support tax planning and compliance initiatives as well as develop procedures and processes
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Google Drive (Google Sheets, Docs and Slides) is required, and familiarity with NetSuite and Looker are welcomed
The ability to work independently and communicate tax issues clearly with non-tax teams is critical

What the job involves

Avant is looking for a highly motivated Senior Tax Analyst to join its tax team. This role will support the Tax Manager’s goal of efficient and effective tax planning, research, and compliance for Federal, international, and state income tax matters as well as state and local indirect taxes
This position will report to the Tax Manager, work closely with other members of Avant’s finance team, and communicate across functions to gather financial and accounting data and serve internal and external stakeholders. Above all, Avant is looking for a collaborative team member, an independent thinker and someone who is interested in being a tax professional
Prepare Federal and state income tax workpapers in Excel, gather relevant internal documentation, and
Work with external providers to prepare Federal, foreign, and state and local corporate income and fanchise tax returns and partnership tax returns
Drive the preparation of the annual and quarterly tax provision calculations and tax footnote disclosures
Memorialize Federal, international state, and local tax research and conclusions in Word Compute state and local extension and estimate tax payments
Timely respond to and resolve Federal, international, and state income tax notices
Support Tax Manager on tax planning and process initiatives with by effectively communicating with external service providers and internal stakeholders
Partner with other members of Controllership to access accounting systems to pull reports for the preparation of tax returns, tax provisions, and state apportionment
Gather information for and prepare monthly and annual state and local sales and indirect tax filings

For its users, the company offers a quick credit decision and speedy access to any allotted funds. It has issued over $8 billion in loans to date, and has also expanded its business through the acquisitions of ReadyForZero in 2015 and Zero Financial in 2021.

This expansion has enabled Avant to reach towards its goal of offering a whole suite of products in a single platform, such as loans, credit cards, and deposits. Although there are many FinTechs looking at ways to remove the barriers that people with low credit scores face when trying to take out loans, this expansion to banking products should help Avant to stand out.
