Who you are
- You know how to support engineers at all stages of their career, and are motivated to help them do their best work
- Empathy and an understanding of how to empower and support engineers to do their best work
- A high level of organization and the ability to manage multiple projects from initial concept through delivery and production support
- You should be comfortable iterating from high level requirements to execution plan, and have a track record of successfully delivering multiple complex concurrent projects
- Familiarity with public cloud infrastructure supporting multi-tenant software as a service products
- Strong background in partnering with recruiting, making hiring decisions and closing hires, and building a diverse and inclusive team
What the job involves
- We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Cloud Infrastructure team
- You’ll be responsible for nurturing a strong existing team responsible for the reliability and operability of our platform
- You should be comfortable maintaining a complex roadmap and have the ability to prioritize and balance work across our individual contributors
- Support and develop engineers through feedback and coaching, setting context and expectations, and eliminating barriers to execution
- Own the engineering roadmap for Cloud Infrastructure and manage projects within that roadmap
- Set priorities in partnership with the Infrastructure leadership team, establish delivery sequence, and drive day-to-day execution against those priorities
- Own the reliability of your product area in production. Our engineering teams are responsible for the uptime of their systems, and you will ensure that your team has the focus, tools, and process needed to reliably ship and manage
- Partner with other engineering leaders in driving process changes across teams to ensure that we continue to scale effectively
- Be responsible for maintaining a healthy culture in your team, with support from engineering leadership and the People team
- In the first month, you will build a deep understanding of Chronosphere’s infrastructure and your team
- You will have time to learn about how our product uses cloud technology, our developer’s needs, your team’s roadmap, and will contribute to day-to-day execution as you gain familiarity with your projects
- In 3 months, you will take over execution planning and fully manage your direct reports. You will understand our longer-term Infrastructure strategy, our internal customers, our technical and financial constraints, and how we manage our customer tenancies
- After 3 months, you will take ownership of the roadmap for our Cloud Infrastructure, working with leadership to establish priorities and a delivery plan and driving hiring and day-to-day execution against that plan
- We deliver a highly reliable service to demanding business customers, and you should understand how this impacts the way product is built, validated, released, and operated
- We believe strongly that hiring is the responsibility of engineering management, and you should be able to demonstrate attracting, closing, and retaining engineers at multiple levels
- Reporting to Jacob Rosenberg, Head of Infrastructure

As companies switch to cloud-native strategies, the main problem they face is how to store, keep track of and analyse data in real-time. Chronosphere offers scalable cloud monitoring services custom-built for managing cloud-native infrastructure and apps.
The company is entering a field that is on the rise, albeit crowded with both startups and leaders like Microsoft Cloud Monitoring and Amazon Cloudwatch. Chronosphere's edge likely lies in the cost efficiency of their service, and what seems a relatively transparent billing model. In addition, the founders are using Chronosphere to continue developing their open-source metrics engine M3.
This open-source product has proven a draw for both investors and customers, even when up against tech industry giants. The company's significant growth and funding (most recently from CrowdStrike) efforts have resulted in a $1.6bn valuation, Chronosphere has managed to remain highly competitive in a rapidly expanding market as it further optimizes its product.
