- Basic understanding of HTML and CSS a plus

- Starting salary for this role is in the range of $76,000 - $105,000 and is dependent
What the job involves
- The big picture: Axios is dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news in an audience-first format. We are looking for an Associate Director of Events Marketing to join our Growth team
- Why it matters: Axios Events brings this journalism to life, delivering analysis of the most consequential trends shaping our world. The Associate Director, Events Marketing will lead the development and execution of best-in-class marketing programs to drive attendance, viewership, and brand awareness for Axios Live
- Go deeper: As part of the Growth team at Axios, you’ll be collaborating with the Axios Live team to develop compelling promotions for major industry events. Responsibilities include:
- Planning and executing marketing campaigns to generate RSVPs and viewership and increase awareness and interest in our event offerings
- Leveraging paid and organic channels such as email, house ads, social media, and content marketing
- Partnering with the Events team to develop plans and messaging, and monitor campaign results
- Collaborating with Audience Development to post on Axios social media accounts
- Initiating and managing A/B tests to improve conversions and engagements in the registration flow
- Partnering with the Design team to develop creative assets for various marketing channels, including landing pages, emails, social posts, and ads
- Creating and deploying marketing emails to attract event registrations
- Working closely with other Growth team members on cross-promotions, the Product/Tech team on organic acquisition, and the Analytics team on reporting and analysis
- Reporting campaign results, presenting data-driven insights, and recommending next steps to increase the effectiveness of the marketing campaigns
- Occasional travel to support event media capture and promotion
Our take
Axios is a digital news site covering business, tech, politics, and media trends, with a focus on smart and efficient coverage. Much like rival comparable sites The Economist and Politico, it’s also diversified its media to include podcasts, newsletters, and a mobile app. Whilst it remains a major national and international news outlet, it’s also pursuing a new avenue to help shore up its position: local news.
Local news outlets have been in sharp decline over recent years: it’s too costly, with too little revenue. Axios’ plan is to opt instead for local newsletters. They’re highly advertiser-friendly, and the model itself is exceptionally scalable. So Axios may succeed where traditional efforts by other outlets like The Huffington Post (and countless local outfits) have failed.
Axios was previously held up as an exception to the mergers and acquisitions other news outlets were having to undergo to weather the decline of print media. However, in order to fund the expansion into local news, Axios has been acquired by the global conglomerate (and previous investor in the company) Cox Enterprises. This is good news - Cox Enterprises owns and protects local newspapers in Ohio, and looks set to be a hands-off and values-aligned new Axios owner.
