Role
Who you are
- We’re looking for an experienced and innovative Head of Compliance to join our Legal team
- Proven track record of developing and implementing effective compliance programs across diverse organizations
- Familiarity with laws and requirements applicable to our business, including global harassment prevention requirements, employment laws, data privacy laws, cybersecurity, AI laws, anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, and Code of Conduct
- Ability to adapt to changing regulatory landscapes and business needs
- Demonstrated ability to quickly develop connection, rapport, and credibility with compliance leaders, advisors, and prospects
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work both independently and as a member of a team
- Proven ability to assess and prioritize risks, and effectively work with relevant stakeholders to mitigate risks
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and relationship management skills
- An entrepreneurial mindset - we’re an early-stage startup so we’re not just looking for someone to run a playbook. We want you to help build it
- A “roll up your sleeves” mentality and comfort with ambiguity
- Familiarity or experience with speaking at events or panels is a plus
- Prior experience using Ethena’s products is also a plus
- Understanding of marketing principles is helpful, but a willingness to learn is essential
What the job involves
- This role will report to our General Counsel, and will play a crucial role in developing an effective compliance program and making sure our products and services comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices
- As the Head of Compliance, you will work closely with key stakeholders across the organization, including Product, Learning Experience, and the Commercial team, to understand the laws relevant to our products and services, provide compliance expertise to inform the decisions that the business makes, and develop a culture of compliance across the organization
- In this role, you will also work closely with Marketing, and will be a significant part of how Ethena represents itself to the ethics and compliance community, building awareness of and deeper brand affinity
- You’ll be expected to leverage your expertise to shape and execute a comprehensive thought leadership strategy, building trust and authority while championing Ethena’s disruptive position in the market
- This role combines strategic thinking with an ability to influence others through public speaking engagements, social media, and content
- Develop, implement, and maintain a robust compliance program to ensure our products and services comply with all applicable laws and regulations
- Act as a resource and subject matter expert for all compliance-related matters, which will include responding to compliance inquiries from internal and external stakeholders
- Partner with Product and Learning Experience to develop training content and to integrate compliance considerations into product development
- Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations that impact our products/services, and build communications plans with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success to provide timely updates to customers and prospects
- Develop, revise, and maintain compliance policies and procedures that reflect compliance best practices
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential compliance issues and develop mitigation strategies
- Develop and execute a thought leadership strategy to position Ethena as a top voice in the compliance space
- Secure earned speaking opportunities at relevant conferences, webinars, and industry events
- Manage relationships with Ethena's compliance advisors to identify and leverage their expertise and strengths for Ethena’s growth
- Guide the development of external-facing content (articles, whitepapers, case studies, etc.) that addresses relevant laws, compliance trends, and changes in the regulatory landscape
- Build and maintain a network of compliance professionals, including on LinkedIn and other compliance forums
- Lead various types of virtual and in-person meetings including calls with prospects, virtual roundtables, panel discussions, webinars, and live streams
- Physical Demands:
- This is sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing in a home office environment
Our take
Ethena originally started as a training platform to prevent harassment at work, with its model driven by short, bite-sized “nudges” and flexible 5 minute training sessions rather than time consuming, and often ineffective seminars.
The company was quickly celebrated upon launch for its fresh take on deploying anti-harassment training. Leaning into the micro-learning method has proven popular as it makes training much more gamifiable, and far easier to digest, while it offers much less distraction from the daily workflow.
Ethena’s has won major customers in the form of Netflix, Figma, and Zendesk. Since receiving impressive 2022 funding, the company has expanded its focus to include a wider range of compliance training, from financial compliance to corruption prevention, to diversity & inclusion, all to meet the growing demand for its tight, user-friendly approach.
