Role

Who you are

  • 8+ years of combined experience working in both a highly ranked law firm and the in-house legal department of a technology company
  • Expertise in commercial contracting, in particular delivering SaaS transactions at speed and scale
  • Demonstrated success in building and scaling processes and teams to enable high contracting throughput
  • Confidence to tackle new problems, approach issues from first principles, and free draft novel contracts
  • Strong academic and applied understanding of software and data licensing transactions, data protection, commercial contracting, and intellectual property
  • Proven ability to work independently and also collaborate with business development teams, with effective communication and people management skills
  • Active membership in good standing in either New York or California bar association
  • Prior experience in using contract lifecycle management tools

What the job involves

  • You will be responsible for all aspects of commercial contracting with a focus on the drafting, review, and negotiation of revenue generating contracts and building out the commercial contracting machinery necessary to support Altana’s rapid growth
  • Handle a high volume and velocity pipeline of customer facing commercial contracts (SaaS)
  • Build and refine the processes, runbooks, and machinery to enable contracting at an ever increasing scale
  • Use intellectual agility, commercial nous, and project management skills to advise stakeholders and drive negotiations on complex matters adjacent to commercial contracting such as: data licensing agreements or partnerships; joint ventures; reseller agreements; novel pricing structures
  • Always be looking for opportunities to increase the speed, efficiency, and success rate of the customer sales cycle
  • Take ownership of the continuous improvement of standard form agreements
  • Be proactive, responsive, results orientated, always on the front foot, and adept at anticipating customer and stakeholder needs
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and enabler for key stakeholders in the sales teams

The idea is that this will help businesses and governing powers optimize global commerce which, over the past few years, has shot up on the list of international priorities. With three quarters of businesses reporting recent supply chain disruptions, and governments increasingly concerned with mitigating security threats, data-driven visibility is more sought after than ever before.

Crucially, the platform doesn’t require data sharing to create global intelligence, instead using a federated machine learning approach. This is a nut many big-data companies have been trying to crack, and Altana AI’s success has attracted the company interest from top-tier investors like Google Ventures and Floating Point alongside contracts with the UK Department of Business & Trade. A number of other headline enterprises and government agencies are already on the company's customer roster.

With companies looking to recoup some of the $4 trillion reportedly lost in supply chain disruptions over recent years, and the push for global databases getting stronger, logistics startups are having a fruitful investment period. Altana is crafting a remarkable product at a highly marketable time, and with good uptake so far. Backed by substantial funding, Altana is set for a strong few years.
