Role
Who you are
- Writer is looking for our first Product Designer that's thoughtful and talented
- You're a visually-focused designer and have a keen eye for aesthetics, details, and pixel perfection
- You feel comfortable designing from the ground up rather than sole from within an existing design system. Note: we do have a design system, but we're constantly designing new experiences that push its boundaries
- You are passionate about building great user experiences and keeping a team centered on the user throughout research, design and implementation —all while keeping business and technical angles in mind
- You are ready to take ownership of a complex, growing product and are comfortable with ambiguity; you learn quickly
- You love collaborating with passionate and talented cross-functional partners
- You’re intentional about your design decisions and communicate them simply and clearly
- 8+ years of experience working as a UX/UI or Product Designer
- Experience building UI components from scratch (founding designer, expanded an existing design system, overhauled an existing design system)
- Experience working on a technical or B2B product is a plus, but not required
What the job involves
- You'll be instrumental in bringing our product design vision to market and establishing the foundation for future growth
- This is the perfect role for a designer who is looking to make impactful decisions in the product org
- Design the user experience of Writer products, including:
- Researching user and business objectives in collaboration with Product
- Translating user needs and business objectives into designs that help our customers get the job done (delightfully)
- Prototyping and testing the efficacy of designed solutions
- Building design system components and experiences from scratch, as needed (and using what we can from the existing design system)
- Gather feedback and figure out how to iterate and improve things you launch
- Work on the product roadmap with cross-functional partners
- Keep upgrading the design process, quality, and community at Writer
Our take
AI-assisted writing tools have taken off over recent years. With the likes of high-exposure company Grammarly accelerating adoption of such tools, a flurry of startups have appeared to offer their own takes. Writer’s angle is to leverage AI as a means of standardizing and scaling both content and communications for business teams. The tool offers autofilling and inline suggestions that keep content aligned with pre-determined company language and style guides.
This branded fine-tuning function distinguishes it from full copy-generation competitors, as well as from Grammarly itself, which is a more generalist copyediting tool. It subsequently caters to major enterprise clients looking to maintain standards across multiple and sprawling teams, and the company has managed to net major clients like Deloitte, Twitter, UiPath, and Accenture.
While AI-related buzz remains solidly around generative AIs like ChatGPT and Bard, Writer's narrow target market - in which it has already found success - supplies plenty of scope to grow, as AI copyediting tools look set to rapidly become content industry standard. With continued new launches and updates to its offerings as well as an impressive $100 million Series B awarded in 2023, the company is well-placed to seek further success into the future.
