What the job involves

Building our software based on the features that our users have already asked us to add to our platform. In the short term this would focus on adding features to our Soil, Manure and Nutrient Management Plans
Using your experience in software development to read between the lines of feedback and identify the problems that users are facing – and then come up with and build novel features that solve those problems. Even if users aren’t telling us explicitly what the problem is - e.g. making a feature more intuitive if you see on a live demo that users aren’t quickly working out how it should be used
Refining how we sell the platform and also building out our internal dashboards to work out which bits of the customer journey we should focus on improving
Working with and deriving national scale geospatial datasets
Speaking with our customers (farm advisors and farmers) to get their feedback (this could be watching them use the product live on a call which we do frequently, or just them getting in touch with feedback). Then working with them and the team to define new features and products

Step 2: Technical interview with our dev team - chat with them and discuss a bit about what we build and how we build it
Step 3: Technical task - quick task just to see how you look at a new problem - more interested in your approach than the answer
Step 4: If you want to have another call to get to know us better, that's no problem at all
Step 5: We're a small team so can decide pretty quickly after that

Salary benchmarks

Our take

Soils contain a wealth of biodiversity and play a key role in the quality of farm produce, animal health and much more. Farmers can use a variety of practices to keep their soils healthy, but the issue many in the agriculture sector face is the lack of understanding and knowledge of their own land and soil health. Soil Benchmark is a data analysis solution offering farmers a platform to analyse soil health and better utilise their data to create soil management plans.

Customers are able to join the platform easily by inputting a few sections of data to start them on their soil health journey. With the inputted data the platform uses a mapping system to detect sensitivities to develop a strategy for its customers

The early-stage company discloses that its founding product has been established but the platform will grow in directions initiated by its customer’s requests, staying true and adaptable to the field its serving. Also contributing toward the bettering of our climate crisis, soil can act as carbon stores and with the release of the new Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) farmers are searching for exactly the kind of support Soil Benchmark is offering. The platform is most definitely joining an affluent sector and it will be exciting to see how it’s product broadens over time as it’s customer base grows
