- Experienced leader of embedded teams: Experience leading multidisciplinary teams of designers embedded into Product and Engineering functions

What the job involves
- We are looking for a Director of Design to help us transform our product into something that will impact millions of learners’ lives
- You’ll report to our Chief Product Officer, , and be actively contributing to and shaping the product and brand vision
- You’ll work alongside the Director of Engineering, and the Director of Product, to bring that product vision to life
- You will lead an established, multi-disciplinary team of 10 designers to deliver this product and brand strategy while elevating the role and value of design across the business
- Lead our team of Product and Brand Designers. You will be accountable for the team’s performance and health and responsible for hiring and growth
- Establish and maintain principles, processes and standards that enable efficient and scalable design operations
- Drive a user-centric design approach, advocating for user needs and ensuring that product designs are accessible, inclusive, and engaging for a diverse audience
- Co-define the long-term product vision and strategy as a peer to other Product and Engineering directors and senior leaders
- Collaborate with marketing and sales leaders to ensure our brand and messaging align with our customers’ needs
- Engage with senior leadership as design representative to align around the design vision and contribute meaningfully to strategic decisions
- Support design leads in shaping strategy and bringing to life the product vision, helping their teams do their best work
- Shape the direction and design vision of our new membership-focused platform ensuring we attract, retain and add value for all of our customers
- Work with senior leaders in Product and Engineering to foster a cohesive, collaborative and innovative culture throughout the business
- Work across our teams to explore exciting new ways to enhance learner impact and improve our offering to customers
- Drive a user-centric design approach throughout the organisation, advocating for our user’s needs and how we can add value
Salary benchmarks
Our take
Private tutoring is a huge market traditionally dominated by expensive agencies (who charge extortionate hourly rates and take a big cut from the tutors that work for them by acting as the middleman).
The average starting price for tutoring can hit £50 an hour in London, MyTutor’s prices start from a much more affordable £18 an hour (the company can charge this low by cutting out the middle man).
MyTutor has built technologies to make online tutoring sessions smooth (e.g. it built an online whiteboard and makes it easy to share documents and upload past papers). All sessions are recorded so you can also play them back when they've finished. Along with academic support, the company prides itself in building confidence and providing mentorship.
The online EdTech industry has really blown up over the past few years and it highlighted the need for an online service that helps fill the gaps in today’s education system by delivering personalised support tailored to the individual. As MyTutor is conducted purely online, it can now really focus on providing quality education to a much wider audience.
