Who you are
- 4-6 years of business development or partnerships experience in tech or related industries
- Experience working in the payments or financial service industry and/or familiarity with payments, financial services, card issuing, and disbursements
- Experience working with product and engineering teams with a desire to tackle complex problems

- High level of competency (organization, prioritization and problem-solving skills) with a detailed-oriented mindset

What the job involves
- We are seeking an associate to help with the development of our payments ecosystem, specifically supporting Instacart’s relationships with critical payment partners to ensure Instacart's long term growth and success
- Partners include Issuers, Processors, and Payment Networks
- This role will play a critical role in supporting Partner Managers in the ongoing management of high visibility programs for Instacart
- This individual will also interface closely with cross-functional teams such as Product, Engineering, Marketing, Legal, Policy, Finance, etc
- The Strategic Partnerships team at Instacart is a group of experienced and results-driven professionals who are passionate about driving incremental growth for the company, generating cost-savings, and accelerating the company’s strategic priorities through needle-moving partnerships with a range of companies
- Our team is responsible for managing some of Instacart’s key external relationships while working closely with Instacart Leadership and cross-functional teams to bring those partnerships to life and unlock new opportunities for the business
- Our team values strategic thinking, creativity, and using data and insights to drive our decision-making
- Support the end-to-end relationship management of external Payment Partners in conjunction with internal Partner Manager Leads
- Negotiation Support for strategic deals from proposal stage through implementation
- Help track quarterly business reviews with partners and ensure the delivery of high impact results
- Provide a strategic business and partnership perspective to the Product and Engineering teams including developing a joint roadmap
- Collaborate and support the development of the Payments Partnerships strategy with cross-functional teams including opportunity sizing and resource prioritization to help drive the next level of innovation and growth for Instacart
- Project Management: Serve as the critical knowledge hub for initiatives, liaising with cross-functional groups, and ensuring comms are effectively distributed across all teams including executives
- As a core payment partnerships team member at an innovative technology start-up, this is a high visibility role with a seasoned path for long term career development and experience in the payments and business development industry

Instacart is an online grocery marketplace that operates a pick-up and delivery system in the US and Canada. Unlike standard grocery shopping, Instacart sends a “personal shopper” to your local store to buy your products, who then delivers them straight to your door on the same day via their own car. The company also supplies the Instacart Platform, with services for stores encompassing eCommerce, fulfilment, in-store, ads, and insights.
The increased modernization of society has meant more than ever that consumers are looking to buy their groceries online, making space for apps like Instacart to become daily life staples for years to come. Although the company must compete with other grocery store delivery services, such as Walmart’s own, it has expanded to cover large percentages of US and Canadian households, and is now aligned with over 900 retail banners across more than 75,000 locations.
Instacart's software offerings signify the company's focus on tech, designed to move it away from its dependence on the gig economy. To this end, the company has acquired FoodStorm, an order management system that powers end-to-end order-ahead and catering, integrating its technology into its enterprise suite. Despite an IPO in September 2023, market downturns have necessitated a 7% workforce cut in 2024, focused on middle management and creating a flatter organisational structure.
