Who you are
- 5-7 years of internal sales experience; 2 of which should be managing a team
- Proficiency in Salesforce, Salesloft, and/or other similar platforms
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Highly motivated sales professional with a proven track record of exceeding KPI goals
What the job involves
- As the Manager, Business Development Team, you will play a pivotal role in leading and mentoring a team of Business Development Associates to drive their success in qualifying leads, leveraging contacts for new business, relationship management and contributing to the overall sales pipeline. This includes driving individual outbound prospecting as well as providing guidance, coaching, and support to help Business Development team members achieve individual and team targets
- Lead the Business Development (internal sales) team responsible for prospecting and contact management across advisor channel sales
- Lead & Inspire: Manage, coach, and motivate the BD team to exceed sales targets through outbound prospecting, while equipping the team with best practices and sales techniques
- Collaborate: Partner with other sales leaders to ensure alignment and impact of new initiatives and collateral to facilitate growth and enhancement of the team
- Drive Outbound Prospecting: Spearhead engagement with Sales Operations and Marketing to equip the BD team with high-quality lists, targeted data, and aligned content, ensuring effective outbound outreach and new client opportunities
- Hold Team Accountable to KPIs: Foster a performance-driven culture by tracking and managing team delivery on KPIs (call quotas, emails, meetings, lead conversions, proposal generation) - providing regular feedback and coaching to ensure goals are consistently surpassed
- Call Review & Coaching: Conduct regular call reviews to evaluate performance, provide actionable feedback, and refine sales techniques to improve outreach quality and hit KPIs
- Serve as a Resource: Act as a primary point of contact for the team, fielding questions and providing guidance on a variety of topics. Direct inquiries to appropriate subject matter experts (SMEs) when necessary, ensuring timely and accurate responses. Collaborate with SMEs to deliver insights and solutions, ensuring seamless communication across departments

Our take
The current landscape of 401(k) retirement plans is stagnant in comparison to the standards of financial software innovation. Vestwell offers a digital record-keeping platform that works directly with wealth management firms to help workplaces save money on their employee retirement plans. Vestwell does this by removing the friction points financial advisors and companies have in establishing and maintaining defined contribution and benefit programs.
The startup faces competition from legacy players such as Boston-based Fidelity Investments who currently keep track of almost $2 trillion in assets in the industry. Furthermore, Empower also focuses on advisor-friendly and customized web tools and functionality, presenting further competition to Vestwell.
Despite this, Vestwell is uniquely positioned to disrupt the stagnant 401(k) system, a stance only strengthened by its substantial rounds of funding through the 2020s. This has been invested into expanding platform functionality and servicing for its partners and clients, releasing two new products in September 2022 - Vestwell Flex and a TPA portal. These additions will make Third Party Administration partnerships more efficient for Vestwell customers, streamlining the recordkeeping systems necessary for such actions. Continued product updates like these will help Vestwell keep pace with its substantial competition.
