- Familiarity with anime and manga content is a plus
What the job involves
- You will be a key leader responsible for driving innovation, technical development, and strategic partnerships to enhance our anime streaming and SVOD service
- Your primary focus will be to lead a global team in creating impactful go-to-market technical strategies, co-innovating with partners, and influencing partners' roadmaps
- Your extensive experience in building and managing partnerships, scaling teams, and driving technical innovation will be instrumental in shaping the future of our service
- Collaborate with global partners and business development to drive joint technical innovation
- Create and execute go-to-market technical partner strategies for our OTT partnerships
- Leverage industry-leading technologies to enhance the anime streaming experience across partner ecosystems
- Work across partner ecosystems to deliver and integrate SDKs/APKs and API-Based Solutions with Partners
- Enable compatibility, integration, and quality with a vast array of devices and platforms
- Develop innovative turnkey solutions that benefit long-tail partners and set industry standards
- Partner with the core tech teams to come up with scalable solutions
- Develop Integration Strategies & Documentation to share across the organization
- Initiate research and development efforts in new partnership areas
- Share and collaborate with internal teams to productize these concepts and enhance fan experiences
- Collaborate closely with Client Engineering to enhance requirements and architecture for core partner platforms, ensuring resource alignment
- Work collaboratively with Video Engineering to define video requirements for partners
- Assist business development in defining a coherent technical partnership strategy and ensuring Crunchyrolly’s proactive involvement in partnership discussions
- Develop integrations and release strategies to optimize ROI by logically grouping platforms
- Elevate the organization's best practices, documentation, and patterns to create modular and flexible platforms
- Initiate R&D with new partners to understand platform-specific requirements
- Develop and maintain specific partner-facing tools and portals for documentation, releases, and updates
- Lead partner device certification and testing efforts
- Build apps, modules, and components for partner integrations, including payments and clients

In recent decades, anime - encompassing Japanese, Korean, and Chinese animation 0 has transitioned from a niche interest to a formidable industry, boasting a global market worth approximately $30B. Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
