Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience as a Front-End Engineer, preferably with smaller teams in a growth/startup environment
- Proficient in JavaScript and have experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (our current stack: TS, React, Redux, Sass)
- Strong understanding of front-end architecture and design patterns, with an emphasis on performance optimization and debugging
- Proficient in testing code and experienced with testing frameworks
- Familiarity with Back-End technologies (preferably Python) is a plus
- Familiarity with LLM/NLP is a plus
- Previous experience building software for enterprise clients is a significant advantage
- Proactive and results-oriented, with the ability to contribute constructively and align with team decisions
What the job involves
- You’ll become a Front End Engineer of our end-to-end LLM platform deepset Cloud and work with our enterprise customers
- As a front-end expert, you will be an owner of all front-end-related tasks and work closely with our wider product team to help shape our product further whilst also contributing to the evolution of our design system
- You will therefore be in a position to drive your area of expertise and contribute to the decision-making for the future of our awesome LLMs products
- Own features end-to-end, from ideation to production. Collaborate with your cross-functional Product team to build, iterate, and ship new features to shape our customer’s experience
- Develop high-quality, scalable, reusable, and customizable components for complex web applications
- Review pull requests (PRs) for code quality, consistency, and adherence to best practices. Perform maintenance tasks, including PR updates and system repairs as necessary
- Mentor other engineers and help them grow in their careers
- Occasionally take ownership of firefighting tasks, resolving urgent issues as they arise
- Drive software engineering best practices, focus on customer oriented solutions, improve CI/CD, documentation, and more
Our take
Natural Language Processing (NLP) is at the core of many modern enterprise data processing workflows, from complex data processes to customer service chatbots. However, NLP systems are not one-size-fits-all, and the development and deployment of bespoke NLP systems require the niche and expensive help of programmers with expertise in machine learning and semantic syntax.
Deepset provides an open-source API-driven framework called Haystack for the quick and efficient development of production-ready NLP systems. The company's goal is to make modern NLP as easy as possible to apply in a practical and scalable way, and states major use cases of its API for automated data analysis, customer satisfaction, fraud monitoring, and regulatory actions.
Whilst NLP has been implemented by many enterprises such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft, options for companies without dedicated AI experts have been limited, making deepset's open-source approach highly beneficial to many industries. Lately, the company has invested funding in the development of a SaaS product called deepset Cloud, which will enable users to build complex LLM apps more easily and at "a fraction of the time".
