Role
Who you are
- 4+ years of professional experience working in product design
- Ability to develop work that represents strong understanding of design fundamentals (visual hierarchy, interaction design, application of brand and system)
- Experience designing native apps (iOS and Android) and familiarity with platform specific interaction patterns
- Effective articulation of ideas and design solutions
- Share feedback with understanding and clarity, and easily translate feedback you receive into your work
- Tolerance for ambiguity and healthy curiosity
- Translation of quantitative & qualitative insights into design decisions
- Contribution to our culture: motivation, optimism, quality, integrity
What the job involves
- Our vision is to create a seamless, intuitive, and trustworthy shopping experience that drives conversion and fosters loyalty
- As a Product Designer on the Growth team, you'll craft engaging iOS app experiences that reduce friction and turn visitors into satisfied customers
- This role offers the chance to boost metrics like conversion and engagement through rapid, data-driven experimentation
- You'll collaborate closely with product, engineering, research, analytics, and marketing teams to test hypotheses, measure results, and iterate on what works
- This is a full-time position, reporting to the Senior Product Design Manager
- Product designers on Growth work in a squad alongside a product manager, 4-6 engineers, a researcher and a data analyst. Together they work in an agile environment, running rapid experiments while maintaining our high bar for quality craft
- Designing polished, interactive prototypes to bring your team’s roadmap to life
- Sharing your work with peers and leadership to collect feedback and iterate
- Taking part in weekly design critiques, workshops, and squad meetings
- Thinking and writing about your process and documenting your decisions
- Collaborating with engineering to build your design to spec before launch
- Collecting feedback through both research and experimentation to refine and iterate on your designs
- Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law

Our take
Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art, and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.
Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.
However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. The recent hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers has created significant discontent amongst sellers. Etsy must reconcile these issues to ensure artists continue to operate on the same scale within the platform. It plans to attract shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
