Who you are
- The right candidate is naturally adept at building strong partnerships and has demonstrated success owning and growing customer relationships, including developing a deep understanding of customer priorities, motives, and key drivers and cultivating external stakeholder relationships
- Is deeply curious and solutions-oriented; and has demonstrated success working internally and cross-functionally to drive solutions for customers
- 3-6 years of relationship management experience
- Experience managing customer portfolios in financial services or technology industries is a strong plus
- Ability to partner with Sales teams to drive successful outcomes for Plaid customers; previous deal experience preferred
- Ability to collaborate closely with Plaid’s technical teams to ensure customer application launches are timely and successful; previous B2B technology experience is a plus
- A strong business generalist with an acute product sense and ability to drive revenue growth
- Ability to quickly understand new technologies and complex conceptsAbility to solve complex customer challenges through creative problem-solving and collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Interest in financial services and technical products; grit, enthusiasm, and a high degree of intellectual curiosity
What the job involves
- The Account Management team in Plaid’s SMB customer segment leverages our deep technical, product, and industry knowledge to help our small and medium-sized customers build and scale amazing applications
- We act as partners, advisors, and advocates for our customers to shape how consumer and business interactions with their finances will drastically improve in the coming years
- Plaid is looking for a customer-facing professional to manage and grow our client relationships with a portfolio of customers in our SMB segment
- Many of these customers are long-term partners and drive significant revenue for Plaid
- The Account Manager will be responsible for further deepening relationships and fostering the next stage of growth with these clients
- You will be your customers' primary point of contact and will work with them on all stages of integration, scaling, product expansion, and account management
- You will be responsible for working directly with external stakeholders, from developers to executives, to help them create the applications that will empower businesses and consumers with their financial data
- Own the overall relationship with customers, identifying key stakeholders, and building relationships with the core team interacting with our solutions
- Manage partnership, commercial, and technical initiatives; develop and implement strategies that increase existing and new product adoption, engagement, and growth at scale to drive revenue
- Lead regular account initiatives, including ongoing checkpoints, business reviews, and technical escalations; identifying critical goals and key performance indicators to clearly understand and measure client satisfaction
- Be an advisor and provide consultative guidance on Plaid and industry best practices as customers build and scale their applications
- Enable successful and consistent renewals to maintain existing segment revenue, as well as identify and execute new growth opportunities with customers in support of the Sales team
- Be a champion for our customers and work with our internal Plaid teams to translate customer feedback into product insights; partner with customer stakeholders to ensure alignment between their business and product priorities and Plaid’s
- Partner and collaborate with internal cross-functional counterparts such as Account Executives, Support, Commercial and Product teams to drive successful outcomes for Plaid and our customers
Our take
Plaid builds infrastructure that allows a consumer to interact with their bank account on the web through a number of third-party applications, like Venmo, Robinhood, Coinbase, Acorns and LendingClub.
Plaid has integrated with 12,000 financial institutions in the US, Canada, the UK and Europe. About a quarter of people living in North America with bank accounts have linked with Plaid through at least one of the hundreds of apps that leverage Plaid’s application program interfaces (APIs). The platform allows companies to create financial services applications without having to hire their own team of engineers to build out a tool that connects apps to its users’ bank accounts.
This is very valuable in a world where there are increasing number of fintechs, so the demand for Plaid's services are only going to grow. Despite its strong position, it has not been immune to the difficult global economic situtation and was forced to restructure at the end of 2022, laying off some of its workforce. However it is still experiencing growth and is well-positioned to weather the current economic uncertainty.
