Who you are
- This role is perfect for a senior security practitioner who has deep technical expertise, strong product instincts, and wants to shape the future of AI-driven security solutions
- Deep Security Leadership Experience: 9+ years in cybersecurity with proven experience leading security teams and programs at fast-growing companies (startups/scale-ups), including experience scaling security through hypergrowth phases
- Technical Security Mastery: Expert knowledge of cloud and container security with hands-on experience investigating technical exploitability of vulnerabilities, conducting security research, and deep understanding of attack vectors and defensive strategies
- Product Security Expertise: Strong product instincts with proven experience contributing to security product development, understanding both technical implementation and market requirements for security solutions
- Hands-On Technical Background: Direct experience as Security Engineer, Red Teamer, or former Software Engineer with ability to conduct deep technical analysis and guide AI model development for security applications
- Research and Development Experience: Track record of leading security research initiatives, developing novel security methodologies, or contributing to advancing the state of cybersecurity practice
- Enterprise Security Program Leadership: Experience building and scaling security programs that support enterprise customer requirements, compliance frameworks, and business growth objectives
- Cross-Functional Collaboration Excellence: Proven ability to work effectively with engineering, product, and business teams, translating security requirements into actionable technical and business decisions
- AI/ML Security Understanding: Familiarity with AI/ML security challenges, model evaluation methodologies, and the intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity (strong plus, not required)
What the job involves
- As Security Director at Maze, you'll be the strategic leader bridging security research and enterprise security operations, playing a hybrid role that spans security research leadership, internal security program development, and product innovation
- This is a unique opportunity to join as one of the early leadership team members of a well-funded startup building breakthrough AI-powered cybersecurity solutions
- You'll lead our security research team in analyzing and improving AI model outputs while simultaneously building our internal security program to prepare for hypergrowth and enterprise customer requirements
- Your success will be measured by the quality of security insights that drive product improvements, the robustness of our internal security posture, and your contribution to establishing Maze as a thought leader in AI-powered cybersecurity
- Lead Security Research Innovation: You'll drive the team that analyzes AI model outputs, creates feedback loops for continuous improvement, and develops novel approaches to AI-assisted vulnerability analysis and threat detection
- Build Enterprise-Grade Security Program: Architect and implement our internal security program from the ground up, establishing policies, procedures, and controls that scale with our growth and meet enterprise customer security requirements
- Drive Product Security Excellence: Work closely with founders, engineers, and AI researchers to embed security thinking into product development, ensuring our AI-powered platform delivers both innovative capabilities and robust security
- Shape Technical Security Direction: Leverage deep cloud and container security expertise to guide AI model training on technical exploitability, vulnerability assessment methodologies, and emerging threat landscapes
- Establish Security Research Standards: Define evaluation frameworks for security research outputs, establish quality metrics for AI-generated security insights, and build processes that translate research into product capabilities
- Enable Customer Trust and Compliance: Prepare the organization for SOC2, ISO27001, and other compliance frameworks while building security practices that support enterprise sales and customer confidence
- Champion Security Thought Leadership: Represent Maze in the security community through blog posts, conference presentations, and customer interactions, establishing our reputation as experts in AI-powered security
- Technical Innovation Leadership: Lead security research at the forefront of AI-powered cybersecurity, developing novel approaches that combine cutting-edge AI capabilities with deep security expertise to solve critical industry challenges
- Build Security from the Ground Up: Architect both our internal security program and our product security capabilities, establishing best practices and standards that will define how AI-native security companies approach both internal and customer-facing security
- Expert Team Partnership: Work alongside a leadership team with deep experience in both AI and cybersecurity, providing the perfect environment to push technical boundaries while building scalable security solutions
