Role
Who you are
- 6+ years of professional backend development experience with expert-level mastery of Python (3.12+), async/await, FastAPI, and Pydantic v2
- Proven production experience building complex, distributed systems — ideally including durable workflow orchestration (Temporal or equivalent), message queues, or event-driven architectures
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate agentic design decisions, reliability trade-offs, and LLM behavior to non-technical stakeholders and cross-functional partners
- Growth mindset, strong collaborative approach, genuine passion for mentoring others, and proven track record of delivering high-impact features end-to-end in fast-moving production environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred — equivalent experience, certifications, or demonstrated expertise with a strong production track record considered equally
What the job involves
- Contribute to the design and evolution of the AI orchestration layer, building durable, fault-tolerant agentic workflows using Temporal activities and ReAct reasoning loops powered by pydantic-ai and Claude
- Deliver features across their complete lifecycle — from design and prototyping through implementation, pytest/syrupy snapshot testing, GitLab CI/CD deployment via Octopus Deploy, and New Relic APM post-launch monitoring
- Uphold engineering excellence by conducting thorough code reviews, writing comprehensive tests (unit, integration, Playwright end-to-end), maintaining structlog observability, and upholding uv monorepo workspace standards
- Mentor mid-level and junior engineers in async Python best practices, pydantic-ai agent design, and clean, testable agentic architecture
- Collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, legal domain experts, and frontend engineers to translate complex attorney workflows into reliable, high-impact AI-powered features
- Actively participate in cross-team planning, design reviews, sprint ceremonies, and AI platform standards discussions
- Communicate technical trade-offs, agentic design decisions, and reliability impacts clearly to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, while contributing to AI orchestration roadmap discussions
Our take
Law firms, corporate legal teams and government agencies are under increasing pressure to handle more work, more data and tighter timelines, all without increasing costs. As a result, demand is growing for legal technology that can automate routine tasks, organize complex information and also help laywers work faster and more accurately. AI has become a key part of this change, and today it's hard to find interest in legal tech that doesn't have AI at its core.
Filevine is a good example of how this shift is playing out, Founded in 2014, the company began as a software-as-a-service platform helping legal teams manage cases, documents, billing and payments in one place. Over time though, Filevine has expanded into what it now calls a Legal Operating Intelligence System, bringing intelligence into the full lifecycle of a legal matter. And in recent years, the focus has moved strongly toward AI, as most of the company's revenue comes from its AI products rather than from its original software.
This growth shows just how well its aligned with where the market is heading, and with $400M from major investors, it continues to expand its platform, adding AI tools that connect across legal workflows. By bringing together case management, depositions, contracts and drafting into a single system, Filevine has positioned itself as a central operating platform for modern legal teams.
