Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Analytics, or related field (MBA preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in sales operations, commercial analytics, or related roles within pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare industries
- Expertise in designing incentive compensation plans to maximize field execution
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Deep understanding of pharmaceutical/biotech commercial models and compliance requirements
What the job involves
- The Director, Sales Operations will play a pivotal role in enabling the success of our commercial organization by driving operational excellence across sales planning, execution, and performance management
- This position will oversee key processes including sales force targeting and alignment, CRM strategy and optimization, incentive compensation design and administration, and ad hoc analytics to support data-driven decision-making
- The role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and the ability to collaborate across functions to ensure our sales teams are equipped for success
- Reports to: Senior Director, Commercial Operations
- Develop and maintain sales force sizing, territory alignment, and call planning models to optimize coverage and resource allocation
- Partner with commercial leadership to ensure alignment strategies support business objectives and market dynamics
- Lead CRM strategy, implementation, and ongoing optimization to ensure accurate data capture and actionable insights
- Drive user adoption and training initiatives to maximize CRM effectiveness
- Design, implement, and administer incentive compensation plans that align with corporate goals and motivate performance
- Conduct regular performance analyses and recommend adjustments to ensure fairness and compliance
- Deliver ad hoc analyses to support sales performance tracking, and strategic decision-making
- Design and maintain salesforce dashboards to support field enablement
- Partner with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Market Access, Sales, Finance, etc) to integrate insights into planning and execution
- Ensure all processes adhere to regulatory and ethical standards
- Maintain documentation and audit readiness for all operational programs
Our take
There’s been a major movement towards treating mental health issues with psychedelics over the last few years. While the vast majority of this work is still in R&D and clinical trials, the space has become awash with capital investment, with a handful of companies even going public.
COMPASS Pathways is one of those to go public, along with MindMed in 2020. The company is developing methods for treating depression and other mental health issues with psilocybin – the naturally occurring psychedelic chemical found in mushrooms.
The growth of COMPASS from being founded in 2016 to IPO in 2020 has been extraordinary. There have been a few ups and downs since then (as is the case with most PLCs), with each rise and fall dependent on the progress of its trials. However, the fact that the company recently appointed former Otsuka Pharmaceutical executive Kabir Nath as CEO, bolstered by $285 million in private placement VC shows that it's determined to stay ahead of the competition.
