Role
Who you are
- Computer Science degree or relevant field and 5 years of industry experience
- Strong math background and comfortable with Python
- Experience working with modern ML frameworks like PyTorch
- Knowledge of computer vision techniques and machine learning (Camera geometry)
Desirable
- Familiarity with C++
- Experience with HD mapping, multiview geometry, 3D reconstruction, 3D representations, SLAM, sensor fusion, or object detection
- Experience working with ML datasets
What the job involves
- The Mapping team at Zoox Perception develops state-of-the-art CV/ML models to perceive highly accurate HD maps. Our products are critical to enabling autonomy in complex environments in a safe and reliable manner
- As part of this team, you will design and implement models and algorithms to predict HD map elements, in 3D or orthographic visual feature representations, via multisensor fusion
- Elements of interest include traffic lights and signs, lanes, curbs, dividers, their 3D structure, and the topological relationships between them
- We are looking for engineers who are ambitious and passionate about contributing to a technically challenging and safety critical world changing product
- Train and develop state of the art HD map prediction models
- Develop algorithms and machine learning models for sensor fusion
- Develop algorithms and tooling for data mining, dataset building and dataset analysis
- Write on-vehicle software for model inference and model result post processing
- Work with Mapping team to automate map creation process
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
