Role
Who you are
- We're looking for a Product Engineer with extensive experience in application development
- 6+ year of experience developing high-craft software products on iOS/macOS, preferably in Swift
- You’ve successfully led and delivered critical technical projects or initiatives, driving meaningful impact within your team or organization
- You’re comfortable working on large, complex codebases and have the problem-solving skills to navigate ambiguity
- You’re product-minded and deeply motivated by creating user-driven experiences that solve real problems
- You take action and learn quickly, iterating on code, systems, and processes to improve and refine what you build. Failing fast and learning fast excites you
- You’re pragmatic, motivated by nebulous problems, and excited to work in a startup environment with quick product validation cycles
What the job involves
- Building a web browser is an extraordinary technical and product undertaking
- As a Staff Product Engineer on our team, you will solve unique architectural and systems challenges
- You'll design sleek and thoughtful solutions to complex problems. And, you'll contribute to the world's next most influential piece of software
- In this role, you'll work closely with our Design and Membership teams to make product architecture decisions and implement core browser features
- Work with our Design and Membership teams to decide product experiments and adjustments to the browser
- Pair-program with designers to prototype and explore new and interesting interaction models
- Implement custom native user interfaces in Swift
- Optimize UI and application code for performance, quality, and maintainability
- Scope, architect, and implement large product initiatives including UI, logic, networking, and persistence components
- Within 1 month you will..
- Get onboarded onto the team and codebase with an onboarding buddy
- Receive a number of onboarding presentation on how we give each other feedback, the phases a startup goes through, our technical strategy, and more
- Get familiar with Chromium, Swift and our development environment across Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android
- Have shipped a few bug fixes and features across our codebase
- Have pair programmed with a large portion of the engineering team
- Within 3 months you will..
- Have worked on 5+ projects across the codebase, each with a different set of engineers and designers
- Be the point of contact for bugs and product iterations of a few product surface areas
- Be involved in product discussions about certain product surface areas
- Be involved in weekly engineering discussions about our architecture, how we do code review, code style, and more
- Be regularly posting feedback about using the browser in our #dogfooding channel
- Be contributing to on-call rotations and jumping into incidents to support the team
- Within 6 months you will..
- Be interview trained and interviewing candidates for roles at the Browser Company
- Be familiar with some C++ and how we interact with the underlying browser engine
- Be adjusting our terraform config to deploy new infrastructure or update our build pipelines
- Be leading projects from conception to production launch
- Be mentoring and pair programming with newer engineers to help them get spun up on the codebase
- Our core working hours are 11 AM-2 PM Eastern Time
- We are a remote-first, distributed team, with the option to work in office in New York. We strongly support diversity and encourage people from all backgrounds to apply

The browser is a universal piece of technology, enabling people to access all that they want from the internet. However, the browser itself is often ignored, and despite all the changes to other software over the years, it has remained relatively unchanged. The Browser Company is building a new browser named Arc; designed to think quicker, reduce user work, and facilitate the modern way in which the internet is used.
The Browser Company, founded in 2019, sees an opportunity to create a browser that excites. Currently, brand dedication for browsers is limited, as they are designed to act in the background, which keeps their performance issues in the background as well. The Browser Company aims for Arc to be intelligent, and overcome problems such as overwhelming hits, online distraction and information being hidden under irrelevant results. Its competitors of course include some of the biggest names in tech, but it hopes to stand out by creating a browser that is dramatically new and more powerful, which will create its own space in the market through uniqueness in performance.
The Browser Company’s browser was released for mobile and Windows in 2024 and has been met with positive reviews. The company has raised impressive funds that will contribute to the further development of Arc and the release of Dia - an AI-focused browser - set to be released in 2025.
