Role
Who you are
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees (master's or Ph.D.) in these areas are beneficial
- 3-5 years working experience in Python and C++ software development, including system design, data structures & algorithms. Understanding of mechatronic software frameworks and software libraries
- 3-5 years of Mechatronic hardware engineering skills. Comprehensive knowledge of hardware mechatronic systems, including experience in designing, fabricating, and integrating mechanical and electronic components
- Prototyping background. Experienced in developing and testing both software applications and mechanical systems, ensuring they work together
- Hands-on knowledge of CAD/CAM, fabrication using machine shop tools, Raspberry Pi development is advantageous
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Research Engineer, Mechatronics & Software Research to develop and implement research prototypes for the Autodesk Research organization
- At Autodesk Research, we focus on exploring new ways that technology can be applied to design and make challenges across the industries
- Through the lens of applied research and development, we navigate several disciplines to ask questions that the designers and makers of today will ask tomorrow
- You will report to a Senior Manager of Research Science
- You will work in Research Technology Centre based in San Francisco, CA
- Develop and Implement Software Prototypes: Developing, testing, and deploying software prototypes. This involves writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code in several programming languages like Python, C++
- Develop and Implement Hardware Prototypes: Engage in the conceptualization, design, fabrication and prototyping of mechatronic systems, integrating mechanical, electronic, and software components to create advanced technological solutions
- Prototyping: Build and test integration of software and hardware prototypes. Conduct testing to evaluate the performance of these systems
- System Integration and Optimization: Integrate multiple subsystems (sensors, actuators, controllers) into a cohesive functioning unit. Improve these systems for performance
- Teamwork: Collaborate with teams including research engineers, research scientists, software developers, and project managers to ensure project goals are met and systems are developed following the objectives
- Customer and Partner Engagement: Interact with customers, partners, and team members to define requirements, present solutions, and gather feedback
