Role
Who you are
- 10+ years in data engineering, 3+ at staff/lead level, including at least one green-field Snowflake or Databricks rollout
- Expert in Python, Spark (batch & streaming) and advanced SQL
- Deep AWS (S3, Glue, IAM) plus Terraform or CloudFormation
- Proven record of hardening data platforms for scale, cost and security (ISO 27001 / SOC 2)
- Clear communicator who documents obsessively and hands over cleanly

- Dbt mastery, FinTech or supply-chain experience, TypeScript/Java familiarity
What the job involves
- We’re now upgrading our analytics foundation on AWS and need an experienced data-platform specialist to evaluate, select (in partnership with leadership) and then productionise a single modern cloud warehouse—Snowflake or Databricks
- You’ll be the senior hands-on engineer who turns that choice into a secure, scalable, well-documented platform the permanent team can run once you roll off
- Month 1
- Key outcomes:
- Discovery: map data sources, workloads, SLAs
- Assist CTO & CPO with the structured bake-off between Snowflake and Databricks
- Deliver target architecture, migration plan and resource estimate for the chosen platform
- Month 2–3: Foundation build
- Stand up the selected platform with Dev/Test/Prod, security boundaries and cost guard-rails
- Lift critical pipelines into Spark/SQL jobs, Delta/ICEBERG tables or Snowflake tasks/streams
- Introduce CI/CD and observability (GitHub Actions, Datadog/Monte Carlo)
- Month 4–5: Modelling & Enablement
- Re-model the warehouse with dbt (bronze/silver/gold or star schema)
- Expose governed datasets to BI (Looker/Power BI)
- Draft data contracts, coding standards and runbooks
- Month 6: Hardening & Handover
- Performance tuning, cost optimisation, DR drills
- Knowledge-transfer bootcamps + documentation
- Sign-off with CTO
- Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Design and implement cloud-native ELT/ETL pipelines in Python, Spark and SQL
- Configure security, lineage, quality and cost-control best practices on the chosen warehouse
- Build infra-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation) and automated tests; enable blue/green deploys for data assets
- Partner with Product, Finance and Ops to unlock analytics and regulatory reporting
- Length of contract: 6 months (option to extend)

Ferovinum has developed an end-to-end digital platform that empowers businesses to fund, produce, procure, and sell in global wine and spirits markets.
The producers of spirits and wines are generally small to medium-sized businesses, and Ferovinum’s pitch is that its technology, which provides working capital and supply chain automation tools, will benefit from this rocket-boosted tech. It offers a comprehensive suite of foundational services, including capital funding, supply chain automation, international logistics, and access to global trade channels. The company’s founders certainly have experience in financial management, one having overseen structured commodity financing at the Macquarie Group and the other having a history of executive directing restructuring for investment banks.
With production and distribution tools at its disposal, Ferovinum offers predictive inventory management, seamless integration, and international logistics. Its one-size-fits-all technology has already benefitted some of the oldest scotch whiskey distilleries in Scotland on a pilot scheme, funded by a £100 million investment in Ferovinum in 2021. Though still in its early days, the company seems set to attract more clients as its technology evolves.
