Role
Who you are
- At least 5 years of software development experience as a high-performing individual contributor, building user-facing software
- At least 5 years of experience as an engineering manager in a fast-paced environment
- Experience leading teams responsible for building and growing user-facing products
- Commitment to product and technical excellence, familiar with: software project management, software testing, CI/CD solutions, system monitoring, and incident management
- Understanding of Replit’s vision and current product, and strong opinions about what could be made better

- You've worked at an early-stage startup or have founded your own
- Experience in the developer tools industry
- Experience with product led growth strategies and graduating from consumer to business or enterprise use cases
What the job involves
- We are seeking a talented and experienced Director of Product Engineering to lead our product and growth engineering teams
- As the Director of Product Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in driving the technical direction, strategy, and execution of our product roadmap
- You will collaborate closely with partners in design, product management, data science, and sales to help Replit achieve its mission
- A key part of our engineering culture is to empower engineers to drive not only the technical aspects of the projects they’re involved in, but also its overall scoping and definition
- Define and execute the technical vision and strategy for Replit’s product and growth engineering teams, aligning it with the company's overall goals
- Collaborate with design and product management teams to ensure a high-quality product that meets users needs
- Collaborate with finance and business operations teams to ensure our product packaging, pricing, and positioning are serving the market and delivering healthy growth
- Own the end-to-end product development process, from concept and design through to implementation, testing, and release
- Be accountable for the scalability, performance, and reliability of our product, maintaining a high standard of excellence
- Be able to operate at all levels of your organization in order to make good decisions, coach/mentor the team, or roll up your sleeves and pitch in as needed

Young students and workers in the tech industry are constantly being encouraged to add programming to their skill-set portfolio to prepare for a digital future. However, getting started with programming environments can be very difficult, requiring computer science knowledge to even boot the programming environment in the first place.
Replit embeds pre-booted programming environments within web browsers, allowing users to begin coding immediately without having to set up the client. The website supports most popular programming languages such as C++, Javascript, and PHP, in addition to frameworks such as Django and Sinatra. The service can be accessed for free and provides access to everything required to program applications including libraries, tutorials, and collaborative capabilities.
The company has attracted millions of users, including some at major tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Stripe. It has raised considerable funding to spend on hiring talent and further developing its product as it moves to capture more success going forwards.
