Who you are
- 5+ years in software engineering, preferably in a startup or in the automotive industry
- Profound knowledge of TypeScript, Node.js and SQL. Experience with Python is a plus
- Experience with NoCode tools is a plus
- Ability to build scalable systems in an iterative and agile way
- Strong product mind-set and the motivation to continuously improve self and team performance
- Looking for permanent employment in an agile development team (no B2B contracts)
- Experience with Serverless applications is a plus
- Proven ability to own and drive projects to successful completion
- Fluency in English. German is a plus
What the job involves
- As a Senior Backend Engineer on our Supply, NPU and Yield Team, you will be instrumental in shaping the backbone service operations
- You'll take charge in developing, maintaining, and enhancing APIs that ensure the extensibility, reliability, and scalability of our services
- Your work will directly impact our fleet planning and procurement processes as well as our unit-economics calculation
- You will collaborate closely with our users, business automation managers and our Data Analysts to make sure we have the right tools to get the right cars in the right deals
- Shape our internal processes and tools: As part of our Fleet Team, you enable our procurement team to find the best deals for our business. You have a direct impact on the core profitability drivers of our business - our cars
- Share your technical expertise: Play a driving technical role in the Backend team. You will be able to share your technical knowledge and engineering best practices, as well as shape technical discussions to deliver the best possible solutions
- You build it, you run it: Build features and take ownership for testing, deployment and monitoring of your code. Yes, we believe in Serverless!
- Do it, do it, automate it: Simplify, automate and optimize processes that are currently in place
Our take
Digitally led car subscription services have huge potential to disrupt the traditional car sales model. They work on a simple premise: many consumers want to have their own car, but don't want to commit to the costs associated with car ownership. FINN's early success is good evidence of this consumer demand, within its first year of operation, the company sold 1000 car subscriptions and closed a Series A funding round. In 2024, it's grown its total funding to $244 million.
Despite early successes, FINN faces stiff competition. A number of car manufacturers have launched similar subscription services powered by various providers, such as Drover, LeasePlan and Wagonex, whilst others already offer such services directly to consumers. Examples include "Audi On Demand" and "Care" by Volvo. Establishing itself in a market which is becoming more crowded will thus be a key challenge for FINN.
Two key features help FINN set itself apart from competitors. Firstly, FINN's model appeals to environmentally-minded consumers, with the company offsetting the CO2 emissions of its vehicles. Secondly, FINN's automation of fleet management and customer interactions make its business much cheaper and easier to run, allowing the company to focus on growth.
Having trialled its service in Germany and attracting a large tranche of additional funding, it has expanded to the northeastern United States with the aim of moving into other states soon. It is currently targeting the small and medium business sector there and is working towards adding additional EVs to its fleet, a requirement for remaining competitive in this sector as environmental regulations mount.
