Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of building and scaling web applications in a production environment
- Proven experience leading high-priority technical projects from conception to delivery, including the ability to navigate trade-offs and align stakeholders
- A passion for fostering a high-performing engineering culture through code reviews, technical documentation, and mentoring peers
- Deep expertise in modern full-stack technologies—ideally TypeScript, React, and Node.js—along with a strong grasp of functional and object-oriented programming
- Proficiency in leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot) to accelerate delivery velocity, automate boilerplate, and enhance code quality
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement complex, distributed systems that are scalable, maintainable, and secure

Desirable
- Hands-on experience developing or integrating LLM-based features or agentic workflows into production applications
- Strong familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure (AWS/GCP), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipeline optimization
- Previous experience thriving in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment where you’ve helped scale an engineering organization
- Advanced knowledge of database design and performance tuning for both relational (PostgreSQL) and non-relational data stores
What the job involves
- As a Fullstack Senior Software Engineer at Rula, you’ll spend your days designing and scaling robust systems within an autonomous, cross-functional team that values high ownership, rapid iteration, and technical excellence
- Joining the Partnerships orgs, whose mission is to drive patient starts through strategic collaborations with payers, providers, health systems, PCPs, employers, brokers, and other partners, you’ll report to an Engineering Manager and build software that expands our addressable population, enables seamless access to care, closes the loop with partners’ care teams, and positions Rula as a differentiated strategic partner
- The Partnerships New Verticals team focuses on emerging growth areas such as Government, Employers, and PCPs
- This includes supporting government-sponsored plans like Medicare FFS, enabling employers to provide mental health care access to their employees, and helping PCPs connect patients to high-quality mental health care
- This is a unique opportunity to lead critical technical initiatives that have a profound human impact in our emerging growth areas
Our take
More than half of adults in the US will be diagnosed with a mental illness during their lifetime, and yet inaccessibility of treatment remains a huge problem. That’s what Rula aims to solve, with its platform that matches users to therapists that are covered by their insurance.
The company, formerly known as Path, is partnered with a number of major health insurers, including UnitedHealthcare and Anthem, making it an accessible service for millions of Americans. It allows users to browse therapists almost instantly, with just a short questionnaire to fill in before their matches are shown.
Though the market for tech services offering mental health provision is an overstuffed one, with giants like BetterHelp as well as newer competitors, Rula's partnerships with insurers set it apart. The business has been steadily growing, and significantly bolstered its executive team in 2023. Its recent rebrand was designed to emphasise its vision to improve not only access to mental health care, but also clinical outcomes.
