Role
Who you are
- Strong technical foundation in software testing and quality assurance, with a proven track record of ensuring high product standards through test automation
- Experience in designing, building, and maintaining robust test automation frameworks
- Experience leading QA automation strategies and defining testing best practices
- Proficiency in test automation tools for web and mobile, such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, and Appium (or similar)
- Proficiency in contract testing and API testing frameworks, such as Postman, RestAssured (or similar)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into build and deployment processes
- Ability to write and debug automated tests in JavaScript, TypeScript, Kotlin, or similar languages
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), agile methodologies, and QA processes
- Experience in setting up observability and reporting mechanisms for test execution and coverage
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain and summarize complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment, adapting to changing priorities and driving impact
Desirable
- Experience leveraging AI-driven testing tools for test case generation, automated debugging, and root cause analysis
- Experience in B2C, e-commerce, or marketplace platforms
- Experience mentoring and coaching QA engineers and software engineers on best practices for automated testing, quality processes, and test strategy
What the job involves
- The Marketplace Zone at CookUnity is responsible for creating a scalable platform that connects chefs with consumers
- This includes CookUnity’s most critical user-facing experiences across web, iOS, and Android, as well as the internal tools and processes that power the complex operations behind our eCommerce platform

- The Staff QA Automation Engineer will be a key player in our quality transformation initiative, helping to establish a robust QA automation platform, leading test automation strategy, and leveraging AI-driven testing to prevent costly errors while maintaining development velocity
- We are looking for an experienced Staff QA Automation Engineer to define and lead the QA automation strategy for CookUnity
- In this role, you will own the QA automation platform, set technical direction, and provide testing support across multiple squads, primarily within the Marketplace Zone, but also influencing QA strategy across all product teams
- You will be instrumental in establishing modern QA automation practices, optimizing test coverage, and ensuring that our testing frameworks are scalable and efficient
- You will have the opportunity to work with AI-driven test automation tools, drive best practices, and collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to elevate product quality and reliability
- Own and lead the QA automation platform, defining its technical direction and strategy
- Support multiple squads, primarily within the Marketplace Zone, while influencing QA practices across CookUnity
- Develop, maintain, and improve test automation frameworks for web and mobile
- Leverage AI-driven automation tools to increase test coverage and efficiency
- Define and implement QA-related processes, including CI/CD testing integration, test data management, and reporting
- Advocate for a shift-left testing approach, ensuring quality is baked into development processes from the start
- Collaborate with Engineering, DevOps, and Product teams to identify gaps in test coverage and define clear quality metrics
- Mentor QAs and engineers across teams on best practices for automated testing, performance testing, and reliability engineering

CookUnity is a meal subscription service which connects consumers with some of the country's best known chefs, including Esther Choi, Chris Ratel and Andy Mendez. Consumers can select from a menu of handcrafted meals that cater to a wide variety of palates and dietary preferences. Believing that healthy food fuels stronger communities, CookUnity contributes to an ongoing partnership and donation with the Food Bank For New York City.
The New York founded business hit the headlines for its upward trajectory in 2020, where it secured 15.5 million in funding and saw an expected boost not just in demand, but in the supply of top culinary talent at a time when restaurants were struggling.
While there’s a wide world of meal plan delivery services, CookUnity has a jump on much of the competition as it’s the first service that connects such eminent chefs directly with the customer. This has allowed it to expand across much of the US, and it now prepares over 10 million meals annually for its 50,000 subscribers.
With most of the urban US now covered by its service, CookUnity is moving into the next phase of its growth, expanding the range of sellers and food products on the platform, and has plans to offer family-sized portions, brekfast options and cooking classes using its existing physical and digital infrastructure. This will enable it to grow into an all-in-one meal subscription service over the coming years.
