Role
Who you are
- You love technology, but you also care about the people who use it (our customers!)
- You have 5+ years of experience, with meaningful experience designing for data infrastructure or data tooling
- You have a demonstrated ability to lead large and complex design projects
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- You are based in New York and excited about coming to our office (in Astor Place) at least three days a week
What the job involves
- As a Staff Product Designer at Materialize, you will own the user experience of Materialize’s web interface
- Your designs will tackle a wide range of user journeys, from admin and billing to monitoring and observability
- You will use your expertise in our customers, their use cases, and the technical capabilities of our underlying product to ensure that we ship solutions our users love
- This role sits within our Product organization and reports directly to our Head of Product
- To be successful in this role, you will work closely and collaboratively with peers in our Product, Engineering, and Go-to-Market teams
- Become an authoritative expert in your product area, allowing you to translate complex concepts and functionality into simple interfaces that our users understand and love
- Proactively manage a portfolio of small and big projects, while balancing short-term goals against long-term vision
- Drive solution validation for design projects by conducting research, incorporating learned insights, and documenting each step along the way
- Share designs with the Product and Engineering teams early to facilitate quick iteration cycles
- Improve the Product Design function and our processes to help us ship better and faster
Our take
Materialize is the first standard SQL interface for streaming data available to engineers, allowing them to build complex queries without needing any specialized skills or microservices. Unlike other streaming data platforms, Materialize computes and maintains data as it is generated so query results are accessible the moment they are needed.
Materialize's ability to provide rapid and accurate access to data has been recognized in the industry. It has grown its developer community to about 1000 people and attracted a wide range of customers including Density, an IoT-focused space utilization company, and Kepler Cheuvreux, an independent European financial services company.
SQL is an extremely useful marketing and analytical tool for businesses, so naturally there are many competitors such as Datatables, Font Awesome, Ruby on Rails, and ASP.net handlebars. However Materialize has taken full advantage of its first mover status in this space and maintains a strong market lead against its rivals.
Since its founding in 2019, Materialize has become a multi-million dollar revenue company. Funds are being used to further accelerate the development and adoption of its data streaming technology, and expand its engineering team across the US and internationally.
