Role
Who you are
- Ph.D or MSc. in a relevant field, e.g. Computer Science, Machine Learning or Bioinformatics
- Eagerness to lead initiatives, learn new technologies and excel in a complex space
- Solid theoretical foundations and several years of experience developing novel machine learning techniques
- Experience with developing large-scale self-supervised deep learning models ("Foundation Models") for vision or language applications
- Advanced skills in Python, Linux, cloud computing and machine learning software stacks
- Passion for clean code and high standards for quality assurance
- Ability to independently define, organize and complete research projects
- Excellent communication and team working skills
Desirable
- Exposure to biomedical data
- Leadership experience in a research context
- Hands-on experience with developing and integrating Vision Language Models (VLMs)
- Experience in considering Information Security criteria under ISO 27001
What the job involves
- As a Senior Data Scientist in Aignostic's foundation model team you will work on our self-supervised base models
- Together with collaborators in academia and industry you will push the state of the art in large-scale machine learning for digital pathology
- Within our team of experts on large-scale machine learning and data handling, you will work on improving, benchmarking and extending our family of best-in-class foundations models, bridging image, text and other pathology data modalities
- Moreover, using our foundation models you will contribute to developing prototypes for new applications to assist pathologists and generate new insights for improving cancer treatment
- Plan and execute interdisciplinary projects connecting machine learning, software engineering and biomedical domain knowledge
- Research, pilot and evaluate novel computer vision approaches for extracting insight from high-resolution biological images
- Transform proof-of-concept machine learning models into automated, tested and production-ready systems
- Support and mentor junior colleagues
- Clearly communicate your results in internal and external presentations

Our take
There has been a worldwide increase in the numbers and complexity of cancer cases, alongside a predicted global shortage of pathologists. With this, classic manual analysis does not have the capability to support the precision medicine and drug development processes of the future.
Through its precision diagnostics platform, Aignostics turns complex biomedical data into transformative insights. It is able to power target identification (for drug development) and biomarker analyses, as well as support clinical trials with its toolkits.
The company plans to continue expanding its portfolio with new product offerings for biopharmaceutical clients. It is also leveraging its latest funding round to support growth in the US, as well as the development of leading foundation models for pathology in collaboration with Mayo Clinic.
