Role
Who you are
- An understanding of mathematics, including trigonometry and linear algebra, with the ability to apply them effectively
- 1 - 2 years of experience in game development or related fields
- Basic concepts of 3D rendering (notably the bigger render stages and what they do, screen space operations, Physically Based rendering)
- An understanding of digital art content creation pipelines (high and low-poly modelling, unwrapping, baking, texturing, level building)
- Proficiency in python with an understanding of code architecture to develop maintainable tools
- Experience with Maya, Houdini, Substance Designer and Painter
- Ability to work with technical documentation
- Team oriented and a strong desire for collaborative participation in a team-based pipeline across different geographic locations
Desirable
- Knowledge of different high level coding languages (C#, C++, etc.) and HLSL, both in a real time and DCC context
What the job involves
- As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Junior Technical Artist to join the team and help us in crafting the high calibre games our fans have come to expect
- Provide technical follow-up to the art team in regards to performance and guidelines
- Design, implement and optimize shaders while meeting artistic and technical requirements
- Develop art pipeline tools and extensions with an eye towards usability and efficiency
Our take
Gaming is a vastly popular industry across the globe, and few genres command as much loyalty as role-playing games. And Belgian developer Larian Studios has firmly positioned itself at the forefront of that space. Built by and for passionate RPG players, the studio has developed a reputation for prioritising depth, player agency and long-term quality over rapid production cycles.
That philosophy reached its commercial and critical peak with Baldur's Gate III in 2023, a landmark release for the company that delivered hundreds of hours of narrative gameplay and generated $249M in pre-tax profit in 2024, cementing Larian's place among the industry's elite.
Since then, the studio confirmed its not developing Baldur's Gate 4 and has instead shifted resources toward the next evolution of its flagship fantasy series, Divinity. Post-launch support for Baldur's Gate III has continued and additional patches and quality-of-life improvements have been added, helping sustain a thriving modding community and long-term player engagement.
So, now the company has turned its focus to Divinity, announcing at The Game Awards 2025 that there will be a new entry to the franchise. Early commentary suggests the project will retain the studio's hallmark turn-based systems while pushing technical and narrative boundaries further.
