Who you are
- Do you want to help guide financial planning, business operations, and strategic decision making at a Forbes Cloud 100 company? Come join the Finance, BizOps & Strategy (FBOS) team at Gusto
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Finance & Strategy or Financial Operations within tech, fintech, or banking
- Excel expert with the ability to build insightful financial models and analyses, paired with strong critical thinking and sound business judgment
- Comfortable building new processes & reports in an enterprise financial planning system (Pigment)
- Familiar with human capital management, financial planning, and other data visualization & analytics tools (e.g. Workday, Tableau, Redash)
- Experience using SQL
- Comfortable with advanced AI prompting & vibe coding
- Outgoing & thoughtful partner to leaders throughout the organization
- Sharp attention to detail with a natural feel for numbers and data, and have a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
- Impressive time management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects/tasks with multiple stakeholders while hitting deadlines on time sensitive projects
- Prepared to troubleshoot and diagnose issues to their root cause & recommend solutions
What the job involves
- The FBOS team provides financial, operational, and strategic support at the corporate, departmental, and product level
- The team’s mission is to define and defend the business model while accelerating Gusto’s growth
- As part of the Corporate Finance sub team, you will drive company-wide financial planning, resource allocation, operations, and provide key reporting insights to enable company level decision making
- You'll gain experience partnering cross-functionally, improving capital allocation efficiency through the financial planning and headcount management lifecycle, and leverage the newest tools to automate and scale internal reporting
- You’ll have a small team that you’ll be responsible for leading and managing as well
- Corporate Planning & Forecasting. Partner on managing Gusto’s business model and support strategic planning, forecasting and resource allocation
- Management Reporting. Support key corporate reporting requirements to Board of Directors and Executive Team, e.g. company level KPI tracking, performance to plan, etc..
- Business Support. Support key foundation leaders as a business partner & other finance team members
- Drive Efficiency and Scale. Help continuously standardize and improve reporting frameworks, systems, processes and data governance to create leverage for the FBOS team and help Gusto scale
- Headcount Planning & Management. Partner with Gusto’s recruiting team, finance teammates, and cross-functional partners to plan for & operationalize hiring

For many small businesses, vital administrative tasks such as payroll, taxes, and benefits are manual tasks that take time and energy which many SMB owners don’t have. The three co-founders of Gusto – all coming from small business backgrounds – collaborated on a Fintech company that would handle employee payments, benefits administration, and compliance support specifically for small businesses.
The company may have started slowly, as the founders focused on nailing each individual aspect of Gusto’s operations, but has now skyrocketed to unicorn status with more than 200,000 customers and a multi-billion dollar valuation. In 2021, Gusto began acquiring other companies to strengthen its offering and its position in a competitive market, including two other fintech startups, Ardius and Symmetry.
Through its continued acquisitions and fundraising efforts, the company has carved out a strong position for itself in the space. Although Gusto has found itself impacted by the macroeconomic situation, through the significant effect it has had on its clientele, the company still appears positive for the future after raising funds in 2023 that will see it reach key profitability benchmarks. It continues to consolidate its platform, for example by integrating with OpenComp to grant its users access to the company's Compensation Intelligence Platform.
