Who you are
- Academic degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in machine learning, AI, or related fields
- Expertise in natural language processing, deep learning, LLMs and generative models
- Familiarity with engineering operation tools, such as Docker, Jenkins, cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Strong programming skills in Python, ability to write and review production-level code and experience with ML/AI frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar)
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to understand and work with weakly defined problems, refine definitions and come up with actionable solutions
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team

What the job involves
- Vimeo AI team is actively seeking a talented and experienced Data Scientist to join our AI applications team
- The AI applications team is working as an end to end unit, delivering product solutions from the very beginning of an idea towards the final user experience, where the main expertise is around products that require AI abilities
- You will work alongside a team of passionate engineers and researchers dedicated to transforming the way video is accessed, visualized, and shared
- Design and develop advanced AI-based video analysis that incorporates multimodal content (audio, visual, and text), tailored specifically for video applications
- Conduct algorithmic research and prototyping, from conceptualizing and evaluating various AI methods to implementing production-ready solutions
- Optimize algorithms and solutions for real-time, large-scale inference capabilities, ensuring peak performance and efficiency
- Stay ahead of the latest advancements in AI/ML technologies and integrate relevant innovations into the development process
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management and design, to define and prioritize the AI-related product roadmap. Ensure alignment of AI development goals with broader business objectives
Our take
Vimeo was founded by filmmakers who wanted an efficient way to share videos with others. It is more creator-oriented than YouTube, with professional software, technology, and tools for creators to produce, share, and sell their videos.
In 2007, it became the first online video sharing site to support HD playback for consumers, updating to 4K playback in 2016. Vimeo's app has also been updated to allow recording and live streaming as well as watching video. This service is aimed predominantly at enterprise customers although they have millions of small-time users too.
Vimeo has risen to become the world's biggest ad-free open video platform, with significant funding that has allowed it to expand operations and build up the business. Recently, however, the company has found itself struck by the effects of the economic downturn felt by much of the industry, and has been forced to reduce its workforce - a step taken to ensure it comes out of this rough time "a stronger company". On top of this, it received a hefty fine for failure to remove copyrighted content back in 2019, after losing an appeal against the initial ruling.
In 2024, Vimeo is rumoured to be in the process of acquisition by leading mobile app developer Bending Spoons, which could signify a major shift in the tech landscape.
