Role
Who you are
- 2+ years of related experience, ideally in corporate finance, private equity, investment banking, or consulting
- A strong understanding of the P&L dynamics of the financial services industry is a big plus
- Experience preparing and presenting information to key decision-makers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Docs/Sheets/Slides
- Experience with FP&A systems
- Experience with Tableau is a strong plus. If you don’t have these skills already, you will be expected to learn on the job
- Collaborative working style and demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional relationships
- Inquisitive nature, attention to detail, diligence, and a positive attitude
- Willingness to embrace unstructured environments and problems, and manipulate large data sets
- Time and project management skills
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting or a related field
What the job involves
- Strategic Finance enables SoFi to develop and execute on its growth strategy by driving financial visibility and accountability, built on strong relationships and grounded in facts
- The team blends traditional finance roles & responsibilities (budgeting, forecasting, reporting) with strategic decision-making at the highest levels of the organization
- You will be working collaboratively with cross-functional partners across the organization to support the growing Decline Monetization Business (Lantern) as it expands into new verticals
- You will also support the SoFi Money and Credit Card businesses on an ongoing basis, providing support for various financial analyses and strategic initiatives
- This role presents a unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals of (and have an impact on) three distinct business models
- Facilitate annual and quarterly financial forecasting for SoFi's Lantern business in partnership with Business Unit (BU) leaders and in collaboration with stakeholders across marketing, product, accounting, and operations
- Act as day to day finance support to the BU to identify growth opportunities, monitor key performance indicators and develop actionable insights
- Enable the cross-functional BU leadership teams to prioritize initiatives and make real-time decisions by evaluating and sizing impact to key growth and financial metrics
- Prepare materials to facilitate management discussion and analysis of key financial and business performance indicators
- Help develop recommendations on incremental investment opportunities by weighing financial and strategic trade-offs
- Track industry data and financial performance of publicly traded peers and draw parallels to our business to help inform forecasts and business decisions
Our take
SoFi started by offering ways for students to secure better financial terms on their loans, and now offers a huge range of personal finance products, including bank accounts, loans, mortgages, investment advice, and investment opportunities. Many customers find they have to go to multiple financial service providers to meet all their finance needs, but SoFi overcomes this issue by putting it all in one place.
Its goal, to cover all the financial bases, sets them apart from many of the traditional banks and even some of their digital competitors, such as Avant, which has chosen to focus on providing credit alternatives. Although it is operating in a competitive market with a lot of big players such as Monzo, Revolut, and Starling, the company has managed to raise huge amounts of funding to support its rapid expansion.
SoFi has focussed on global expansion, moving outside the US, and has made a series of acquisitions to support this - including a Hong Kong-based investment app called 8 Securities. After going public on the New York Stock Exchange via a SPAC merger in June 2021, the company has continued to evolve and release more mission-oriented services into its roster, and strengthened its lending capabilities through a $350 million post-IPO loan. To date, the company has sold over $15 billion in personal loan collateral and continues to strengthen its offering.
