Who you are

1-2 years experience in a sales role with demonstrated leadership skills
Foundational knowledge of sales methodologies and proficiency with solution selling
Keen understanding of SaaS or eCommerce is strongly preferred
Familiarity with tools such as Zoominfo, Salesforce, Outreach or similar is a huge plus!
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in business or related field a plus

What the job involves

Our Sales Development teams focus on Mid-Market and Enterprise Corporations
Your mission will be to engage with prospects, learn about their challenges, and offer solutions
First and foremost, a successful SDR generates a solid pipeline of qualified leads that have a strong likelihood of becoming BigCommerce customers
You will have a quota for a number of leads per month and compensation is directly tied to your achievement
Learning the attributes of businesses that will benefit from our platform and educating them on our value proposition
Performing outbound sales activities (cold calling, messaging, etc.) to engage potential customers
Employing sales methodologies to push beyond gatekeepers and provide valuable information to key decision makers
Adjusting your messaging and tone to fit a variety of audiences and settings
Assessing complex business structures and challenges
Establishing trust and rapport in order to acquire information that is important to the sale
Tailoring a course of action and/or solution to best fit the needs of each unique prospect
Maintaining a CRM with detailed and accurate notes of all sales related activities
Developing and tracking forecasts and pipelines--understanding the steps it takes to hit your goals and holding yourself accountable
Collaborating with your team to position BigCommerce for meaningful sales wins

Our take

SaaS eCommerce platform BigCommerce is taking full advantage of the recent shift towards online shopping with its software that helps businesses of all sizes build and run eCommerce sites. Aside from providing a template for stores with functions including shipping and payment tracking, it also provides tools to cross-sell on other markets such as Amazon.

BigCommerce competes in this space with Shopify, another major eCommerce provider. While both companies have their adherents, BigCommerce's competitive advantage is in the sheer range of built-in features provided to its customers and the transparency of its pricing structure. While it can be more complicated to learn its flexibility is prized by the customers who have mastered its features. These include major brands such as Ted Baker, Skullcandy and Burrow to name just a few.

BigCommerce went public in 2020 with a valuation of almost $7 billion. Since then it has expanded aggressively into Europe and the Latin American market, including closing partnerships which enable BigCommerce vendors to sell on Mercado Libre. Most recently, it partnered with PayPal to launch an integrated payment solution for US merchants, alongside new AI-driven shopping tools that connect stores to platforms such as Microsoft Copilot and Meta. The partnership highlights BigCommerce's continued focus on strengthening merchant services and expanding its role within the evolving eCommerce space.
