- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a focus on Controlling, Finance, or Accounting
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience
- Experience with LucaNet is a plus
- Basic knowledge of IFRS with a strong willingness to develop further in this area
- Proficiency in MS Office; advanced Excel skills are a plus
- Independent, proactive, and self-reliant working style with a high level of reliability and ability to work under pressure
- Strong understanding of business issues and a solution-oriented mindset to support shared goals
- Hands-on mentality and willingness to take ownership
- Excellent communication skills in English (German is a plus)
What the job involves
- As a Junior Group Accountant, you’ll play a key role in our Group Finance team
- You’ll take ownership of essential reporting and consolidation processes, support the alignment between HGB, IFRS, and internal management reporting, and work hands-on with tools like LucaNet
- From lease accounting under IFRS 16 to driving improvements in systems and workflows, your work will make an impact from day one
- This role will be responsible for management of reporting and consolidation tool LucaNet, including user authorizations, report development, data integrity, and monthly data imports from local accounting systems
- Preparation of reconciliation bridge between HGB, consolidated IFRS, and Group management reporting submitted to banks and the advisory board on a quarterly basis
- Support in the monthly closing and management reporting process, including documentation, reporting packages, and checklists
- Reconciliation and review of balance sheet movement schedules (assets, loans, provisions)
- Full responsibility for IFRS 16 lease accounting, including contract assessment, data review, monthly reconciliation, updates to accounting policies, and handling of contract modifications and lease planning
- Full responsibility for trade receivables impairment under HGB and IFRS 9, including ECL calculation, subledger reconciliation, and data reliability checks
- Identification of process improvements and participation in cross-departmental efficiency initiatives
- Communication with external auditors, preparation of audit working papers, and drafting of accounting memorandums
- Maintenance and regular updates of the Group Accounting Manual
Our take
Car-sharing provides a convenient and cost-effective alternative to car ownership, particularly in large cities where congestion is high and parking space is at a premium. Founded in 2016, MILES has made it easy for German and Belgian commuters to get around without owning a car or getting on a bus.
The German ride sharing sector is quite heavily contested, and while MILES is one of the larger providers it lacks the customer base of its primary rival SHARE NOW. Where it hopes to compete is in its pricing plan, which is measured by distance rather than minutes, providing a less pressured experience for its customers. So far this has worked well for the company, allowing it to multiply its revenue year on year and achieve profitability only four years after its founding. It currently serves more than 200,000 customers and has a fleet of over 13,000 vehicles.
MILES acquired the car sharing arm of Volkswagen in 2022 and integrated it into its own offering. Aside from increasing the size of MILES' fleet part of the deal allows VW customers to book cars through their existing VW mobility app, increasing MILES' customer base. MILES' is working to increase the electrification of its fleet, expand its market presence in Germany and Belgium, and develop new products for its customers such as longer-term rentals and city-to-city rides.
