Role
Who you are

- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Go (our primary backend language), Java, Python, or similar languages
- Extensive experience designing, building, and maintaining microservices architectures and distributed systems at scale
- Advanced system design capabilities with demonstrated expertise in performance optimization, horizontal scaling, and high-availability patterns
- Proven track record delivering and maintaining mission-critical, 24x7 production systems with exceptional troubleshooting and incident response skills
- Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed system architecture
- Production experience with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and modern CI/CD practices using tools like GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or similar
- Comprehensive knowledge of security best practices, compliance frameworks, and experience implementing secure-by-design architectures
- Exceptional communication, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration abilities
- Strong sense of ownership, technical curiosity, and drive to deliver results in fast-paced environments
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
What the job involves
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex, high-performance backend systems that scale with business growth
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers through thoughtful code reviews, technical coaching, and strategic knowledge sharing
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including product, design, and business stakeholders—to translate requirements into robust technical specifications and deliver high-impact solutions
- Partner with leadership to cultivate and champion a diverse, inclusive, and innovative engineering culture
- Work hand-in-hand with product and design teams to architect and deliver seamless, customer-centric experiences
- Drive continuous optimization of system performance, scalability, and reliability to support rapid growth and evolving business demands
- Proactively identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and strategic opportunities for architectural improvements
- Contribute to architectural decisions and help set technical direction for backend engineering
- Shape technical direction and contribute to key architectural decisions that influence the future of our platform
- Champion engineering best practices and establish patterns that elevate code quality across the organization
Our take
These days, all sorts of cards abound, from virtual cards to co-branded credit cards. Imprint aims to stand out in the increasingly crowded space by partnering with businesses to provide branded rewards cards for customers.
While there has been an increase in the number of companies offering branded financial products to reduce costs, Imprint sees its card programs as offering a new platform for deepening customer relationships: less of the nastiness of credit and a much greater focus on rewards.
The startup is focusing on refining its embedded finance solution to fulfil its vision of an Apple-pay like experience for merchants and consumers.
Imprint will hope that its lightweight service, fit for smaller customers like hotel chains, will allow it to compete with the major venture-backed players in the space like Cardless, Apto and Alviere. Its $75 million in venture capital raised in 2023 will go some way towards achieving these aims.
