Role
Who you are
- 5-7 years of product marketing and/or consulting experience, preferably operating in a multi-market or global role
- Ability to use quantitative reasoning skills to inform strategies and tell a strong narrative
- Strong command of quantitative and qualitative user research methods and applications, fluent in using data to make decisions, experience with growth marketing tactics, and deep experience partnering with product teams
- Experience simplifying complex concepts into impactful marketing
- Track record of driving strong growth and results through product marketing strategies and campaigns
- Experience collaborating with and influencing cross-functional teams while maintaining great relationships
What the job involves
- The Seller Product Marketing team at Etsy drives high value actions that enable seller growth and loyalty by developing the story and go-to-market strategy for what we’re building. We partner cross functionally to bring seller products and features to market and drive engagement with features post launch
- As a Staff Product Marketing Manager you will work at the intersection of product development and marketing. You will be leading product go-to-market strategy and helping sellers manage and optimize their inventory to meet buyer needs and demand.. In this role, you will specifically work with product teams who are focused on the seller inventory experience
- To be successful in this role, the Staff Product Marketing Manager will be a key partner in helping product teams articulate customer value and plan effective product delivery and launches while also advocating on behalf of marketing to ensure that product roadmaps support marketing strategies
- You’ll operate in a highly cross-functional role, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Design, Brand, Content, Analytics, Research, and Marketing to improve the buyer experience through holistic and targeted marketing design to drive trial, engagement, and retention
- This is a full time position reporting to the Director of Seller Product Marketing. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy
- This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. - Owning the seller product marketing strategy of Inventory experiences to help sellers effectively and efficiently manage their shops and meet buyer needs
- Narrating the seller journey, uncovering seller insights, and identifying key seller needs to focus product roadmaps on the largest business opportunities
- Leading competitive analysis on seller and/or inventory product experiences to inform go-to-market plans
- Partnering with product, marketing and brand teams to determine what, where and how, and to whom we market key features and product launches, taking into account seller needs and business objectives across Etsy’s core global markets
- Defining the target audience, crafting clear positioning statements and clearly articulating and communicating Etsy’s unique value proposition for sellers
- Serving as a key collaborator between the Product and Marketing organizations
- Developing and aligning on-site and off-site marketing plans in collaboration with channel owners and the broader marketing team
- Setting clear, measurable product marketing goals and track progress against them making continuous recommendations for how we can improve impact

Our take
Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art, and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.
Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.
However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. The recent hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers has created significant discontent amongst sellers. Etsy must reconcile these issues to ensure artists continue to operate on the same scale within the platform. It plans to attract shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
