Role
Who you are
- 10+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Proven experience designing and launching consumer mobile applications for iOS and Android, web/eCommerce, and enterprise web desktop solutions
- Strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design, interaction design, and visual
- Design expertise
- Proven expertise in design and research process and strategy
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping tools
- Solid understanding of mobile design patterns, accessibility, and platform guidelines (iOS/Android)
- Experience in conducting user research, A/B testing, and data-driven decision-making
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on design execution when needed
- Product domain experience in one of the following areas is preferred: residential internal, consumer IOT, or smart home
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field (preferred)
What the job involves
- As the Head of Design, you will be critical in defining and executing our mobile and web applications, user experience, and visual design strategy
- You will lead and scale a team of designers, establish design excellence, and drive innovation while collaborating closely with executives, product managers, and engineering teams to align design initiatives with our business objectives and user needs
- Build, mentor, and inspire a world-class UX/UI design team, fostering innovation and professional growth
- Define and drive the overarching UX/UI vision, strategy, design principles, and guidelines, ensuring alignment with business goals and user expectations
- Partner with executive leadership to influence product roadmaps and long-term strategic planning
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to align design initiatives with business objectives and user needs
- Oversee the end-to-end design process, ensuring high-quality, user-centered design solutions at scale
- Drive research-led design decisions by leveraging user insights, usability testing, and data analytics
- Establish and maintain a scalable design system and visual identity across all mobile and web platforms
- Advocate for user experience and design thinking at the executive level, influencing key product and business decisions
- Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to maintain a competitive edge in mobile and web UX/UI design
Our take
Smart devices within the home have become the norm, but Plume Design believes that this influx of revolutionary home tech is only as smart as the networks that support them. With many issues concerning smart devices, treatment is reliant on generic WiFi, unsafe networks, and expensive analysis. Plume Design remedies this with cloud-controlled internet platforms that are defined by the needs of the devices that use them.
With home office setups now the norm, Plume has fast become a necessary service for many small businesses and casual users. Its smart Wi-Fi networks are ground-level products upon which Plume offers more smart home services and it now has more than a billion devices on its network.
With substantial funding behind it, Plume’s post-COVID surge in business was one thing, but keeping up the momentum throughout the 2020s is quite another. Time will tell if the company can continue on its upward trajectory. But as long as it keeps its networks fresh (as it did in 2022 through its partnership with opensync software agent SamKnows), it shouldn’t have a problem as it scales up.
