Role
Who you are
- You bring some knowledge of, but mainly an interest in learning about, primary research methods (surveys, diary studies, interviews, usability tests) as well as secondary & expert methods (such as cognitive walkthroughs and desk research)
- A strong passion for being the users’ advocate, putting their needs first
- Interest in, and understanding of, how user research can have a lasting impact on product and design decisions
- Completing a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in psychology, behavioural sciences, HCI, design, or equivalent discipline
- Some previous experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research (e.g. thesis/dissertation, previous work experience)
- In order to be considered for this internship, you need to be registered as a student in a Dutch university during the entire internship period. A tri-party agreement will be requested
What the job involves
- As our UX research intern, you will work under the Senior UX researcher across the business, helping designers, engineers and product managers (among others) understand how to delight our users and how to make their experience as unique and memorable as the objects themselves
- In this role, you will assist our Senior UX Researcher in designing and executing the research we need to understand our users' behaviour, motivations, and pain points - and in doing so “learn by doing” about how to design, conduct and analyse research
- You’ll also own helping us capitalise on the research we’ve already done, by better organising and publicising it
- You will learn about how to gain insights through qualitative methods and create recommendations following quantitative validation
- At the end of your internship, you will have directly and indirectly helped shape our users' experience through an understanding on how to make it more useful, more usable, and more desirable
- Support our UX Researcher with designing and running different user research projects - from qualitative in-depth interviews to quantitative surveys to everything in between (no two projects are alike!)
- Get hands-on in planning, recruitment, facilitation and stimulus creation for research needs
- Work closely with our trusted research partners to get projects up and running
- Analyse research findings and help the UX Researcher to communicate these to stakeholders to inform business and product decisions
- Organise and catalogue and brainstorm how to better publicise our existing research to draw out new insights and get them seen by the right people, at the right time
Our take
In the past, it was only possible to purchase special items such as rare coins, antiques, and vintage cars at auctions held at physical locations. These days, many people prefer online auctions, but whilst they provide a wider range of objects for sale, this comes at the cost of proper pricing and quality control. Catawiki provides an expert-regulated online auctioning marketplace where users can browse and bid for special objects easily via the web or mobile app.
The objects listed on Catawiki are curated, valued, and verified by in-house experts, with over 65,000 objects passing through the marketplace every week. In this approach, the company has combined the community knowledge found at traditional auctions with the benefits of digital auctioning platforms, occupying a space that has long remained empty, and avoiding competition from bidding marketplace giants such as eBay.
Catawiki has received good funding in the past, which contributed to it becoming the success it is today. A recent venture has seen the company expand to serve artisanal artists with its handmade products auction series.
