Who you are
- Have 7+ years of experience in content marketing and brand storytelling—ideally within SaaS, fintech or a product-led company
- Are a natural storyteller who can simplify complex topics (like finance and taxes) into content that feels human, clear, and useful
- Have strong SEO and content performance chops—you’re as comfortable with keyword strategy as you are with creative direction
- Understand how content connects across the funnel—from awareness to activation to advocacy
- Excel at working cross-functionally and managing multiple projects with creative rigor and strategic focus
- Have empathy for small business owners and a passion for helping them succeed
What the job involves
- As Content Marketing Manager, you’ll lead the creation of high-impact content that educates, inspires, and converts small business owners at every stage of their journey—from awareness to activation and growth
- You’ll develop and execute a content strategy that fuels our product-led growth motion, deepens customer engagement, and amplifies the Wave story across multiple channels, including blog, lifecycle, social, video, and in-product education
- You’ll partner closely with Brand, Product Marketing, SEO, and Lifecycle teams to deliver full-funnel, insights-driven content that drives measurable business results
- Develop a content strategy that aligns with Wave’s business goals, product roadmap, and customer lifecycle
- Create and oversee high-quality content across web, blog, email, social, and in-product channels that builds awareness and drives adoption
- Plan and execute editorial calendars that balance brand storytelling with performance outcomes
- Identify and optimize for SEO and organic growth opportunities in partnership with Growth Marketing
- Partner with Product Marketing to translate product value into compelling stories and educational resources
- Work with Lifecycle and Product teams to create personalized, journey-based content that nurtures activation, conversion, and retention
- Collaborate with Design and Social teams to bring campaigns and stories to life through rich media formats
- Track and analyze content performance to understand impact on awareness, engagement, and conversion
- Continuously test and refine messaging, topics, and formats based on data and audience insights
- Maintain a consistent brand voice across all touchpoints that reflects Wave’s approachable, confident, and empowering tone
Our take
Over 90% of all businesses in North America are zero to five employee companies. These businesses are organising their finances either by paying an expensive accountant, or relying on traditional spreadsheets.
In response, Wave is democratising access to financial services software. While they are not the first to do this, they have taken the flourishing approach of giving away the invoicing and accounting software 100% for free.
The company instead makes money by embedding financial services products within the software. It's these payments and other revenue streams that the startup is now looking to expand to secure more revenue to scale.
While the company has had success so far with its tools, it will need to build a whole suite of products and services in order to compete with the accounting software giants like Xero.
