Who you are
- You’re someone who cares deeply about understanding other humans and their relationships with money, in all their complex forms
- You’ve got a great grounding in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, and exercise these to deliver game-changing insights at pace
- You’re excited to help everyone learn and test new things everyday
- Confident with designing and executing mixed methods research studies, integrating both quantitative and qualitative methods, to generate insights that inform strategic product decisions and drive business outcomes
- Utilise advanced quantitative research techniques such as conjoint analysis, experimental design and segmentation methodologies to uncover actionable insights on user behaviour, product preferences and market opportunitie
- You're self directed. You can spot problems, prioritise the right ones to solve(however vague or complex), create a research plan and execute it at speed
- You’re comfortable with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and know when to apply them
- You have experience with remote testing methodologies
- You’re an excellent communicator, with heaps of empathy
- Additionally, if you have led high level analyses synthesising both primary and secondary data from various sources to provide strategic insights into market trends, competitive landscapes and consumer behaviour - that would be AWESOME
What the job involves
- You’ll be working as part of a cross functional team to develop Cleo into a hyper-personalised financial coach. Day to you’ll be working out what makes our users tick, and building products that empower them
- You’ll also join our design guild made up of Content Designers,, Product Designers and other User Researchers. We want to build an outstanding research function at Cleo, and you’ll play an important role in determining what that looks like
- Leading the planning and delivery of different user research projects to help us build new features and iterate on existing ones
- Demonstrating a strong quantitative focus to drive data-driven insights across innovative projects
- Analysing findings and communicating actionable insights back to your team and the wider business
- Getting your team excited about, and involved in, research at every stage, from drafting interview scripts to live calls with customers
- Ensuring that our designs are customer-centric, running workshops to inform ideation and improvements
- Empowering others in the business to run their own research projects, upskilling them in qualitative techniques

People are increasingly not satisfied with the products being offered by traditional banks, which have proven slow to react to the needs of younger consumers who expect more from their everyday experiences.
Cleo was one of the first companies to make great use of chatbots that sit within Facebook's messenger app. This chatbot-first approach and Gen Z user base have given it strong virality. It now has millions of registered users, 99% of which are based in the US, leading to a decision to take a year break from the UK market to focus on its US Gen Z customers. And after a successful year in the US its now eyeing up a return to the UK.
Its Series C funding will help the company to double down in the US, where it will make a significant increase in employee headcount, and enable Cleo to maintain and expand its service during an economic downturn.
Financial advice delivered via bots is a crowded space, so Cleo benefits from having a strong brand presence. It has gone for very bold, fun, Gen Z-focused messaging which helps it to stand out from competitors such as Emma, Plum, and Chip.
