Who you are
- 4+ years in an enterprise SaaS role with client-facing experience
- Strong software engineering foundation – coding experience in OO languages such as Python, Java, C++, C#, etc. Degree in fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics / Physics, or Data Science strongly preferred
- Based in the greater New York City area
- Commercially oriented, data-driven, and excited to scale a world-class SaaS product
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced startup environment
- Strong communicator with a focus on transparency and action - you value open, frank, and respectful communication
What the job involves
- We are seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join our Growth team in our New York City HQ
- Kalepa’s clients include some of the largest insurance carriers and MGAs (Managing General Agents) in the world, and the Growth team is responsible for delivering outstanding value to our clients via Kalepa’s SaaS platform
- This is a high-impact, client-facing role that combines relationship building, software development/implementation, analytics, and strategy to drive measurable value for some of the largest insurers
- You’ll work directly with Kalepa’s clients – including underwriters, IT and Operations leaders, and executive leadership – to design, configure, and deliver Kalepa solutions that drive real business value
- Mastery of Kalepa's SaaS platform
- Evaluation of client feedback to surface clear product ideas and improvements, and then execute to deliver those improvements to clients
- Foster and own trust-based relationships with underwriters and executives alike
- Drive and manage real-time integrations into our clients’ existing systems
- Lead 1:1 and group user sessions to gather feedback, educate, and ensure clients are getting the utmost value from Kalepa
- Leverage large datasets to analyze the impact on client KPIs
- Travel to clients will be required and encouraged where practicable
- You will be expected to take ownership of and develop Kalepa’s Growth team, in partnership with and reporting to the VP who leads the group

Insurance products that are underwritten at the Efficient Frontier are essential for businesses to mitigate financial risk, but one-size-fits-all approaches to insurance results in many coverage plans being unfairly priced. The reason for this is that whilst businesses each present their own unique set of hazards, identifying them for each company is an incredibly lengthy process for human underwriters.
Kalepa leverages human-interrupted artificial intelligence to identify the true hazards of a business through a data-driven approach and provide insurance that is priced accordingly. The company claims that it reduces the time that insurance providers take to provide quotes by over 40% and helps businesses save over $15M in losses, whilst also improving coverage uptake for insurance providers.
Whilst the commercial insurance sector is certainly oversaturated, Kalepa stands out by providing its AI-driven underwriting platform to insurance providers, helping them compete through faster quotes and lower prices. In addition to its underwriting platform, the company also provides its solutions in the form of embeddable APIs, and recently formed a new MGA that will underwrite excess casualty risks using Everspan paper.
