- Proven relevant work experience in building, deploying, and operating backend services in a production environment (typically 4+ years)
- Strong proficiency in Golang and/or Python
- Hands-on experience with Docker and a deep appreciation for clean, reproducible development environments
- Experience with relational databases (like PostgreSQL) and an understanding of how to model data effectively
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS

- We're hiring high-ownership engineers to build scalable systems on a modern AWS/Databricks stack
- As a Software Engineer at Source, you will be a core contributor to the systems that power our AI-driven platform
- You won't just be closing tickets; you will be building and scaling the infrastructure that turns complex data into critical decisions for our growers
- At our core, we are a data-intensive systems company solving real-world agricultural challenges
- Our main technical challenge is to model the complex biological and operational reality of a high-tech greenhouse
- This involves building robust systems to process diverse data streams—from IoT sensors to user-input from our iPad apps—and turning that data into actionable intelligence
- You will be instrumental in designing, building, and scaling these critical systems
- Design, build, and maintain scalable microservices primarily in Golang, with opportunities to work in Python on our ML/data-centric services
- Work with a modern, diverse data stack that includes PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, MongoDB, and our core analytics platform on Databricks
- Build robust, high-performance APIs using gRPC for internal communication and contribute to our GraphQL backend for the frontend that serves our frontend
- Own your services from idea to production and beyond. You will write code, build tests, and deploy your services using our GitOps pipeline on AWS (ECS & Lambda)
- Contribute to our architectural evolution. You will be a key voice in discussions around service boundaries, communication patterns, and best practices
- Collaborate across the stack. While your focus will be on the backend, you'll have opportunities to contribute to our frontend (React/Typescript) to help ship features end-to-end
Our take
Dutch agtech Source.ag installs AI-powered indoor farms in order to democratise access to sufficient fruit and vegetables whilst using fewer resources. Given that almost 45% of people worldwide do not have access to enough fruit and veg, this is a sizable problem to address.
As the climate crisis worsens, the company's services are in high demand, as indoor farms are essential in providing higher food security under increasingly challenging weather conditions. Source's hi-tech farms are able to protect crops against extreme heat, cold, rainfall or pests.
The company continues to invest in the development of its software that is making greenhouses smarter, whilst also onboarding new customers and expanding partnerships. It is well-funded, which has enabled accelerated product development and supported the expansion of commercial collaborations.
