Role
Who you are
- At least 9 years experience working on a Software Engineering team with relevant technologies and methodologies
- Deep knowledge of or specialization in one or more relevant technologies in our stack:
- Less + Semantic UI
- React + MobX
- Django + DRF
- Celery or other task frameworks
- Postgres + Redis
- Heroku
- Salesforce
- Experience working collaboratively with cross functional teams and various stakeholders across an organization
- Experience coordinating other Engineers through the delivery of a complex software project, including maintenance
- Strong appreciation for test-driven development and agile methodology
- High degree of resourcefulness and proactivity to problem-solving
- Comfort with ambiguity, prior startup experience is a huge plus
- RESTful API development and implementation
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional partners and drive projects from specification to implementation
- Experience in security implementation is not required, but a plus
- Understanding of automation between the software systems

- We’re looking for an enthusiastic and talented Senior Full Stack Developer to join our passionate and dedicated team
- Partner with our Product, Design, and QA teams to build a new customer interface
- Help drive our product roadmap by synthesizing user feedback and data into requirements that inform new features and product development
- Contribute to the development of our backend web application by implementing APIs that will enable third-party integration across partner platforms
- Provide enhancements that will increase load speed, reduce application errors, and improve functionality
- Collaborate with our leadership team to provide recommendations to infrastructure and technology that will enable scalability
- Partner with our Operations team to collect user feedback and synthesize it into requirements for feature upgrades
- Spearhead unit testing and develop documentation that will help us deploy “bug-free” releases
- Advocate for continuous improvement by championing best practices related to code reviews, sprint planning, and the overall development process
Our take
Collective is tapping into the quickly growing freelance and self employed workforce with a back office platform which provides full support for accounting, tax, book keeping and other financial admin, essentially removing the burden from the business owner entirely.
Having only launched in 2020, Collective didn’t take long to receive major backing from General Catalyst as well as Ashton Kutcher’s VC fund Sound Ventures. It’s put it to great use too, with an employee headcount now in the hundreds, showing just how fast the startup is growing.
Interestingly, Collective isn’t available for any and all subscribers. Rather, it only allows applicants to become members if Collective’s advisors know they can offer real value. It may seem a counter-intuitive move, but it keeps the company’s success rate high.
The company's latest 2023 funding round is being used to accelerate the implementation of AI across its operations as well as onboard the nearly 100,000 waitlisted businesses. it launched an AI accounting platform for one-person operations in 2024, exemplifying the savvy use of its funds.
