Role
Who you are
- The individual is expected to be a strong cross-functional business partner who has a combination of hands-on analytical skills, financial modelling expertise, commercial acumen, and the ability to package their insights into strong narratives appropriate for senior executive consumption
- They will be comfortable working in cross functional teams based in EMEA and around the world including Finance & Accounting, Business Operations, Data Science, Marketing, Product and Supply
- The ideal candidate relishes the opportunity to roll up their sleeves to drive meaningful impact, possess strong stakeholder management skills, and is a self-starter that is comfortable with ambiguity in a fast paced global work environment
- 8+ years of relevant experience. Ideally, you have demonstrated relevant experience in an analytical role such as Strategic Finance, Financial Planning and Analytics (FP&A), Strategy/Management Consulting, Investment Banking or Business Operations
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, accounting, engineering, statistics or other relevant field that demonstrates quantitative orientation; MBA or advanced degree a plus
- Superb financial modeling and quantitative analysis skills, SQL experience highly preferred
- Strong analytical abilities and able to synthesize complex information
- You enjoy absorbing large amounts of data and qualitative insights and can quickly develop a strong narrative that leads to recommendations and builds our understanding of the business
- Stakeholder Management: The ability to work and influence cross-functionally in a matrixed business environment is a must
- You are proactive, great at communicating with different audiences and can bring stakeholders on-board
- You seek out and have a track record for driving change and impact in a fluid, unstructured working environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to put together clear, polished, insightful recommendations for peers, managers and senior management
- You’re very comfortable with financial modeling in Excel, and are willing to gather internal and external data points to help build a comprehensive business case
- You’re someone who possesses grit and finds creative ways to get the job done
- You bring high energy and the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast paced environment while balancing multiple projects
- Relevant Sector Experience: Experience in B2C technology businesses is preferred, particularly Marketplace/Classifieds/E-Commerce businesses; broader experience in B2B technology, including Fintech and B2B Software will also be considered
- Experience in travel and hospitality is a plus
- Ability to travel around 10-15% of the time
What the job involves
- The Global Markets Strategic Finance & Analytics team provides budget oversight, reporting, strategic planning and analytical decision making support to the Global Markets team and in-region business teams across EMEA
- In addition this team supports identifying and pursuing opportunities to drive growth and business impact for our international business
- While your formal reporting structure is into the Director, Strategic Finance & Analytics, EMEA, on a day-to-day basis you will work closely with the cross-functional team that is based in-region
- You will directly support Country Managers (and their teams) based around EMEA to drive clear reporting, produce actionable insight, track core KPIs, evaluate investment decisions and work cross-functionally to develop strategies to solve problems
- This person will have a high degree of visibility with senior management within the organization, including the Regional Director of EMEA, EMEA Marketing Director and Finance Leadership
- Partner with a few Country Managers in driving performance management, including development and ongoing analysis of KPIs, creating goals/OKRs and measuring performance
- Develop a deep understanding of what levers drive growth and efficiency for our business and translating that into investment cases and initiatives to drive business impact
- Partnering with the business on annual planning and budgeting, laying out risks and opportunities and debating strategies and capital allocation to maximise growth
- Stepping in to lead EMEA’s monthly business review and speaking to key drivers of variance to goal and potential actions to improve performance
- Modelling and summarising the implications of a regulatory action and potential mitigating actions we could take to minimize business impact
- Working with the Regional Marketing team to discuss changes to channel or country spend and helping bridge local and regional considerations
- Digging into the regional impact of a global product feature and identifying relevant regional insights that could point to local optimization opportunities
- Analytical deep dives: Conduct deep dives into business trends across EMEA and different segments of the business. Independently lead data extraction, analysis, visualization, and presentation
- Build ad hoc reporting and analysis to help business operations and other cross functional partners understand the drivers of performance for key performance indicators

When Airbnb was originally founded, the product helped customers book air mattresses on people's apartment floors. Since then, Airbnb has had over a billion customers hosted through its platform. With more than 4 million registered hosts worldwide, it has grown into a major player in the hospitality sector.
Airbnb has been successful in disrupting the traditional holiday lettings sector. Before it existed accommodation was limited to hotels and bed and breakfasts, but Airbnb has mainstreamed the idea of renting out spare rooms or even entire homes. It has created a new sector of hosts purchasing properties to rent out on the platform and provides a level of flexibility and a range of offerings not previously possible for travelers.
Perhaps a victim of its own success, by 2022 supply of Airbnb-listed properties began to outstrip demand in some markets, as hosts overestimated the appetite for domestic travel. However, the company is still posting strong financials and has unveiled new tools to support its hosts in a tougher rental market. With a healthy bottom line and a huge user base, Airbnb is very likely to overcome the current market turbulence and continue its growth.
