Who you are
- We’re looking for a senior backend engineer who thrives on shipping quickly, solving real customer problems, and building reliable systems that scale
- Have 5+ years of experience
- Be comfortable operating robust distributed systems and navigating scaling challenges. Have familiarity with event-driven architecture
- Care deeply about understanding and solving customer problems
- Work well in environments that value decisive action and getting things done, and bias towards shipping quickly to validate ideas and experiment rather than building a perfect solution
- Have led meaningful technical projects from concept to completion
What the job involves
- The Foundations team sits at the heart of Vanta’s architecture and is critical to unlocking current and future Vanta products. We fetch, process, and serve the core resource and evidence data that powers Vanta. As a member of this team, you’ll work on the source-of-truth systems that enable core Vanta compliance and auditing experiences
- Improve the scalability and reliability of our core data systems, ensuring they’re robust in the face of growth
- Help define and evolve how we model, store, and query resource data across Vanta
- Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams to understand user needs and prioritize impactful work
- Ship quickly and experiment thoughtfully to validate ideas and drive product velocity
- Act as a cultural beacon, setting an example for effective, collaborative engineering and helping mentor junior team members
- Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation
- Drive initiatives to increase operational posture and execution quality across the engineering organization
Our take
The security auditing process is usually very time-consuming, taking hours to complete, and it is often difficult for start-ups to invest time into such a process. Yet, the benefits of security accreditation are enormous, mainly as many such businesses are working globally and need ways to demonstrate security compliance to one another. Vanta works specifically with start-ups to help them complete and pass security audits such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
The company is a compliance portal and security monitoring platform that businesses use to assess their risk levels. Vanta carries out a pre-audit of a company's digital security and highlights areas that need to be worked on before a full analysis of all threats is carried out. Other businesses such as Datadog or PagerDuty offer similar security monitoring services, but Vanta monitors its customers throughout the year, allowing any issues to be identified and addressed early on.
Vanta has found a valuable cybersecurity niche within the giant SaaS market. Companies such as Lattice, Clubhouse, and Calm are all customers, demonstrating a growing trend for companies to manage their cybersecurity proactively, which Vanta should be able to take advantage of to further grow and develop into the future.
