Who you are
- Proven experience as a software engineer with a strong foundation in infrastructure, internal tooling, or platform engineering
- Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes and Docker
- Familiarity with CI/CD systems like CircleCI, GitHub Actions, or similar
- Experience deploying and operating services in cloud environments; GCP experience is a plus
- Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (e.g. Java) and comfort working across the stack when needed
- A track record of improving developer workflows through automation, tooling, or process improvements
- Understanding of security best practices, particularly around authentication, authorization, and access controls
- (Bonus) Exposure to some of the technologies we use, such as Postgres, Datadog, PagerDuty, or GraphQL
What the job involves
- Brigit is looking for a Software Engineer - Platform to help us build internal tools and systems that enable developers to move quickly, confidently, and autonomously
- This role is part of the Developer Experience (DevX) team and sits at the intersection of infrastructure, tooling, and developer workflows
- You’ll work on a mix of internal platforms that span build and deploy tooling, CI/CD pipelines, local development environments, and systems that empower product engineers to run experiments and ship code to production faster
- This is a generalist platform engineering role, best suited for someone who enjoys solving developer-facing problems across the stack
- While your work will lean into infrastructure and internal tooling, you’ll collaborate closely with backend and frontend engineers and should be comfortable writing software beyond infra boundaries
- Enhancing our CI/CD pipelines to improve reliability, performance, and transparency across backend and frontend systems
- Maintaining and evolving our local development cluster tooling, which allows engineers to spin up full-scale environments in the cloud using snapshots of our microservices
- Building and maintaining internal developer tools and libraries, including systems that support experimentation, GraphQL schema workflows, and frontend testing and deployment
- Improving monitoring, alerting, and observability standards, including actionable alert definitions, clear ownership paths, and high-quality runbooks
- Working to apply security best practices across developer tooling and platforms, especially in authentication/authorization and identity and access management
- Partnering with engineers across teams to streamline release processes, optimize build times, and reduce flaky tests
- Writing documentation, championing best practices, and helping others navigate and adopt platform tools and services
Our take
Brigit is an algorithm-based personal finance app that helps underserved financial customers maintain financial health. It offers a raft of protective services including cash bumps to fend off overdraft charges, budgeting tools, and interest-free emergency loans.
In spite of this financially-oriented spread, Brigit has no intention of expanding into neo-banking. This is smart, as it allows the company to focus on a broad range of banner services without stepping into the far more competitive digital banking sector. Brigit has successfully united these disparate features under a strong customer-forward and socially-impactful identity, which gives the company the freedom to expand its services in response to new banking trends without diluting its brand.
It means, too, that Brigit can complement new and legacy banking solutions, instead of competing for space. This careful positioning should shore Brigit up in a sector undergoing continual and swift change.
