Role
Who you are
- 7+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years in technical management
- Proven experience coaching and developing engineers, fostering technical growth and career progression
- Strong technical foundation in distributed systems, scalable architecture, and modern development practices
- Track record of leading high-performing teams, driving collaboration, accountability, and execution
- Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term strategy, ensuring scalable, high-impact solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and learning
- Exceptional communication skills, able to articulate technical concepts clearly across different audiences
- Experience leading teams through complex, multi-month projects, setting clear goals and milestones
Desirable
- Experience in fast-paced, agile environments, navigating ambiguity and rapid change
- Ability to influence technical direction, ensuring alignment with business and product goals
- Experience setting technical and tooling strategies to improve team efficiency and quality

- Familiarity with consumer-facing, wellness, or health-tech products
- Experience with Node.js OR TypeScript, especially in the context of building high-scale backend services, or hands-on experience developing with Flutter, including deep familiarity with Flutter frameworks, third-party libraries, and APIs

- Headspace is seeking an Engineering Manager to join its Engagement Product Pillar and be responsible for improving and innovating our products and services to help our members feel better
- Being on the engineering team, you’ll be working on a product that impacts millions of users worldwide
- You will help us bring new features to life to meet our mission, while also helping push our platform to newer technologies as we embrace the cutting edge
- Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering growth, collaboration, and ownership
- Drive technical excellence, ensuring scalable, maintainable, and high-quality systems
- Execute with speed and impact, delivering features that enhance user engagement and retention
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to align engineering with business goals
- Leverage data and insights to inform technical decisions and optimize user experiences
- Champion innovation and best practices, continuously improving development processes and technical strategy
Our take
The world is facing a growing mental health crisis. In 2022, the US saw the proportion of the population with an acute anxiety, depression or other mental health need grow from 20% to 40%.
In 2021, Headspace and Ginger finalised a $3bn merger to form Headspace Health, an accessible mental health platform. It is determined to democratize mental healthcare, and its brands are already being used by over 100 million people and more than 4,000 enterprises including Starbucks, Adobe and Paramount.
There is clearly a need for virtual mental healthcare, and the market is growing increasingly crowded, with competitors including His & Hers Health. However, Headspace Health sets itself apart with its rapidly growing portfolio of services, added in part through strategic acquisitions such as that of AI health firm Sayana in 2022. It is now focusing on international expansion, offering its services directly to companies in the UK for the first time.
