Who you are
- Experience with developing external APIs
- A continuous improvement mentality, experience with coding using AI
- Identifies development risks and builds mitigations
- Around 5 years of Java development experience
- Strong concurrent/multithreaded programming skills
- Experience with asynchronous systems (streaming, messaging)
- Experience using the Spring Framework
- Linux proficiency, including shell scripting
- Experience with cloud (ideally AWS)
What the job involves
- Our engineering team sits within the IG Prime, strengthening IG’s institutional client offering. Our FIX Integrations team builds and maintains the APIs that power IG’s connectivity with institutional clients and partners across global markets
- We’re responsible for delivering resilient, high-performance trading and market data integrations that underpin some of IG’s most critical client experiences
- You will play a key role in creating a new suite of robust trading APIs in the cloud
- You'll be at the heart of IG's institutional growth strategy—building the APIs that traders rely on every day
- Your work directly enables IG Prime to onboard new clients, expand into new markets, and deliver the low-latency, reliable connectivity that institutional traders demand
- You'll help grow the product offering by designing and delivering new API capabilities that meet evolving client needs
- Whether you're shipping new features, hardening existing services, or collaborating with stakeholders to solve integration challenges, your contributions will have a real impact
- Develop and maintain IG’s FIX APIs
- Help deliver the IG Prime division’s product roadmap of new functionality
- Provide technical support to IG’s clients and FIX Support teams when required
- Monitor and manage FIX API services with a focus on performance, reliability, and resilience
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to improve processes and deliver excellent service
- Build test harnesses and increase automation across the FIX platform

Founded in 1974 by Stuart Wheeler as a UK-based spread betting company for gold, IG Group, abbreviated from Investors Gold Index, was initially set up to allow people to speculate and trade on the price change of gold without owning physical gold. And in the year 2000, it was listed on the London Stock Exchange and its gradual evolution into the world of fintech began.
By 2011, the company had played a part in numerous international buyouts before narrowing its focus down to financial wagers. During the latter half of that decade, IG shut down its binary options trading platform and focused instead on building an investment portfolio with partner BlackRock Investments, all whilst maintaining its Forex and CFD trading processes. Since then, it has become a fast-paced market leader in the investment space.
In recent years, IG Group has developed major platforms for various trading actions and has grown profit and revenue significantly. Alongside this it has acquired a number of companies, including tastytrade and Freetrade, and launched its own crypto product, making it the first UK-listed company to launch crypto trading to retail investors. This further proves how much of a staple IG Group is in the world of financial trading.
