Role
Who you are
- 7+ years of professional backend development experience. ⏱️
- Strong background in building and operating APIs or backend services, ideally in fintech, banking, or payments (or similarly regulated, high‑reliability domains). 🏦
- Technical skills:
- Solid experience with Java (our primary language). ☕
- Experience with microservices architectures and distributed systems. 🧩
- Hands-on experience with cloud-hosted services (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure). ☁️
- Good understanding of relational databases and/or other persistence technologies. 🗄️
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern development workflows. 🔁✅
- Experience with observability tooling, such as Grafana, metrics, and alerting. 📈️
Desirable
- Experience with open banking, payment processing, or financial APIs. 💸
- Experience with API gateways, message brokers, or event-driven architectures. 📬

What the job involves
- Design and build backend services: Implement and maintain robust, scalable, and performant Java-based microservices running in the cloud. 🏗️
- Own APIs end to end: Design, document (OpenAPI), implement, and maintain REST APIs for open banking and payment flows. 🔁📜
- Work across services and domains: Collaborate with other teams and codebases beyond the core repos to deliver features and improvements across the Neonomics platform. 🤝
- Operational excellence: Build observable systems using logging, metrics, dashboards, and alerts (e.g., Grafana), and participate in on-call or incident handling as needed. 📊️
- Improve reliability and performance: Profile, debug, and optimize services to handle high throughput and low latency requirements. ⚡📉
- Security and compliance: Apply privacy-by-design and security best practices in everything you build. 🔒
- Mentor and collaborate: Support and mentor other engineers, contribute to code reviews, and help drive good engineering practices (CI/CD, testing, documentation). 🧑🏫👩💻

Neonomics is here to power open banking. It does so by supplying solutions for personal finance, plus enabling finance businesses to provide these solutions to their customers. Its offerings include open banking payments, AI-powered finance planning, and an API which enables direct bank payments to be added into apps or websites.
The company has done well so far, and has secured custom from businesses including Worldline, Kivra and Link Mobility. Having expanded beyond its native Norway to serve the rest of the Nordics - as well as the UK and other European regions - Neonomics is already well on its way to achieving its goal of powering cutting-edge finance across Europe.
